Why Doesn't GGG add a Death Info Screen?
One thing I always feel is lacking in POE is any amount of information as to why or how you died. I feel like this could be easily solved by showing the players a few details about the state of their character and last few hits before dying.
Screen Details:
- Show the buffs/debuff icons (with tooltips) the player had when they died
- Show 5-10 of the last hits/damage the player took
- Mob Portrait, Model, or Name
- Damage Source Skill name
- Damage Type (phys, cold, etc)
- Raw Damage # (before mitigation)
- Optional:
- Damage Source Skill Icon
- Modifiers on Mob Portrait, model or name when hovered
- Details as to mitigation layers, I.E if hit was 5000 phys, but player had 25% phys reduction show that in another column.
- Show your resistances /defenses (on the left)
Considerations:
- Is this information perfect? - No
- Can players use this information to gain more knowledge as to why they died? - Yes
- Could players misinterpret this information - Yes
- Could players learn to interpret this information more accurately as a community like 90% of the rest of this game? - Yes
- Could there be a technical reason this information is not trackable on the servers? - Possibly, but they track a lot of other info like currency drops and ubers slain etc. So its likely the plumbing is there and could be performant.
Given POE2's stated goals of being more clear and readable, I was shocked this wasn't added to POE2 either with the new engine updates etc.
Why do you guys think GGG doesnt add something like this? Do you think its too big of a technical challenge on the server end to track this information and report it back? Or do you think they believe players will misinterpret imperfect information that doesnt potentially tell the whole story as to why they died?
