I always found these two very interesting additions to the Marvin filmography. They feel very meandering and both feature the return of giant hairy monsters never placed in a Marvin short before.

Two fun/sad facts. Spaced Out Bunny was Mel’s last Looney Tunes theatrical short voicing Bugs Bunny and Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½ Century was Michael Maltese’ last looney tunes short before he passed away.

[TOMT][SONG] a song about Jonah from a 90’s Christian cassette tape

Between a musical movie, a billion ai songs and various VBS collections there about a billion Jonah songs.

The one I am thinking of was on a kids Christian cassette tape that had a wide range of different kids songs, not like a tape from one particular group or choir or something. I listened to it in the mid 90’s (95-96 probably), but I’m not sure when it was created. I lived in southern US states at the time. Not sure if that’s helpful.

The song I’m thinking of has a sort of cartoony sounding old man would speak the song’s verse, not a rap, like he’s telling the story in a bouncy rhythm, and a choir of kids singing the chorus. The old man then interjects with little asides during the chorus.

The batch of lyrics I have burned in my brain go like this:

Old man: “‘now you go to Nineveh and get those folks attention. Tell them all, that I’m appalled at all these things I mentioned.’ Jonah heard and still he ran away.”
Kids “J-j-j Jonah was running from the lord.”
Old man: (running from the lord!)
Kids “j-j-j Jonah was someone who went oooooverboard”
Old man: (whoops!)
Kids: “j-j-j- Jonah wound up in a whale of a need.”

That’s all I remember.

I’ve done Google searches with the lyrics, descriptions even searches for Christian kids cassette tapes to just see if I can spot a cover i recognized. Like I said, basic “Jonah” searches get drowned out.

A little while back I shared some post-it note doodles I had been doing on my lunch break. I didn’t know if they technically fit in with the cubist style so I asked this community… which I now realize is apparently a tactic used for ai and is a type of post many art communities look down on. I apologize for that, I genuinely was trying to find out. Anyway… You all were so nice and encouraging!

I’m terrified of physical media. Every paint stroke stresses me out. I want to get better at it but it really defeats me. So I opened Procreate instead and just started noodling. Hadn’t used it in over a year. Never shared anything from it because I rarely finish pieces since i’m usually frustrated with what I’ve done.

But I actually had fun with this. I just sort of experimented. It was the first thing in a long time I just did for me. I restarted like… four times. Tried brushes I’d never used. Played with layer blending modes. And somehow came out the other end with something I’m actually proud of.

Lots to play with and practice, but I feel like this pushed through a frozen mindset I’ve had for over a year. So thank you all for the encouragement. One big thing I need to learn is file sizes… did this one the same size as my post it… which really under utilizes the whole digital workflow thing. But I can try something new next time!
