Creating contemporary neckline with vintage tools

Shown is a matched tool set -- made of sterling silver -- The left one is an awl for poking holes for the first round; then the matching crochet hook takes over.

I have no idea how old the set is -- I've had it for 20 years. The awl is very charp.

1964 Joan Crawford movie 'Strait-Jacket'

I just watched this movie (written by Robert Bloch of Psycho fame). The plot evolves around using an axe to remove heads. In the final credits, the woman on the Columbia Pictures logo is headless.

PS: One of the scenes prominently displays a 6 pack of Pepsi. At the time Joan Crawford was married to the president of Pepsi.

Frugal tip if you have to use a laundromat: don't use detergent

I needed to wash a small white rug and my tiny washer is too delicate, so off to the laundromat. I had read somewhere that most people use too much detergent in their washing machines, so I decided to risk washing my rug without adding any detergent at all.

The photo shows the result. Almost too many suds to rinse out properly ... I'm glad I didn't waste my own detergent.

Another PSA about Laundromats

I have white rugs in my bathroom and a visitor got a nose bleed that spattered one of them. I got out my peroxide and dabbed the spots with one major spot remaining. My washer is too small and delicate for even small rugs, so it was off to the laundromat.

I thought it would be worth the research to see just how much detergent remains in laundromat machines. Holy Cow! The first picture is washing it without adding any detergent at all. I washed it a second time without detergent and it still had enough detergent to do a load of clothes.

There was still a tiny blot of blood so I dried it outside in the sun to bleach away the remaining spot.
