Chain too short? Not cut

I am converting to an Advent X and 1x drivetrain from a 2x10 drivetrain. I have a brand new 10-speed chain from SRAM but it looks like it will be too short for the bike, despite not having been cut yet. Am I missing something with sizing for these drivetrains or do I need to track down a longer chain?

Volunteer firefighter project ideas

Hi all,

I’m a volunteer firefighter and GIS Analyst. I’m wanting to leverage my GIS skills to help support my small all-volunteer department. I’m still pretty new to the firefighting world, and so I’m just wondering if anyone else out there has been in a similar role, and how you used your GIS chops. We do a mix of wildland and structure firefighting, but the vast majority is wildland. Our group is generally tech savvy and willing to learn new things.

So far I’m thinking of a FieldMaps setup where people can note hazards (e.g. sketchy bridges/culverts, locked gates, no turnaround, etc.), good egress on narrow roads, etc.

Also hydrants in town, trails for SAR, and relevant water sources in our district outside of town.

Any other ideas? I have access to ESRI and QGIS tools, and some limited Python knowledge (though willing to vibe code).

Thanks!

Acupuncture school dropout- is there hope for me for BD?

As the title states, I went to a school for 3 trimesters that is now defunct, but left several year before the closure. I dropped out because I realized the debt to future income ratio was going to be absolutely crushing, and the job prospects were far worse than anyone had led me to believe. Can anyone chime in about having success (or difficulty) filing for Borrower’s Defense from a similar position? I just found out about this and am anxious about getting kicked off the SAVE plan. Would love to pursue Borrower’s Defense if possible.

NPD x2: Hungry Robot Wallflower and Superlunar Sr-01

Feels like I just keep diving further down the boutique dirt rabbit hole/money pit. I was incredibly lucky to get in on what looks like the final run of the Wallflower (huge thanks to Eric at Hungry Robot for taking pity on us who missed the original drop!), and sold a couple things that justified bringing in the Superlunar. I love the juxtaposition of aesthetics and early impressions of each one’s sound. Brief review below.

Wallflower:
This is just what I hoped it would be. The clean chorus/reverb side is really lovely and versatile on its own, and kicking on the gain stage (“growth”) leads to massive textural walls of sound. I ran it into a Black Fountain Stereo and a Tensor and the fuzzed out soundscapes were massive. It definitely nails the “shoegaze in a box” ad copy, and in that sense is basically two pedals in one for a killer price.

My only potential con is the distortion side doesn’t have an output volume control and it gets LOUD, fast (unity gain is fully counter-clockwise). Ive only played it through headphones so far but the volume jump may be a bit challenging to work with in a live setting. I’ll find out next week.

Superlunar Sr-01:
This is shockingly versatile and sounds good almost no matter what I’ve set it to. The branding is of course sleek and minimalistic. I’m putting together a mini-board that I can use for both guitar or synths and excited to try it on a line level instrument.

Want a nasty, spitty, gated fuzz? Check.
Want a synthy, compressed fuzz? Check.
Want a light amp-like overdrive? Check.
Want a blown out exploding amp? Check.

Minimalist-ish review, feels appropriate.
