[VA] Managers Telling Employees Not to Discuss Promotions?

Hey everybody, I don’t want to be too specific on here for the sake of anonymity but I recently found out that my boss verbally told my coworker not to discuss with me that they were in the process of trying to promote her. My manager had told me that they could not promote me this year because it needed to occur with the conduction of a review (to be done in January of the following year) yet somehow they’re going out of their way to fight to get her a promotion.

I’m feeling a little miffed that my manager explicitly told my coworker to keep this from me because I can’t help but feel like it was said to prevent me from fighting for my own need to be promoted. I only have a single additional year of experience on my coworker and this will be the second time she’s been promoted and I have yet to receive my first promotion and I earned an entire masters degree during my first year on the job. I’m still earning a starting salary for a role that only requires a bachelors degree.

It all feels sketch as hell to me. I’m a person of color in a predominately white area so I feel like maybe it edges on the line of some form of discrimination but I really have no idea. Any insight would be amazing!

Feeling Incredibly Sad and Hopeless about Dating

I’m sure one of these posts comes up every other day or so but I guess I could use some support. I’m a 25F and I’ve been feeling real sad about finding a real connection with someone. All my friends are partnered and in serious relationships and it’s been lonely. I love my life as a single girl. I have a career, hobbies, friends and I’m getting a pet for the first time as an adult soon. I have lots of things to love about myself and how I choose to live.

But dating just…sucks. I’ve been on the apps and I had two guys I went out with for about a month and a half each before inevitably they decided they weren’t ready to commit. The last guy especially has been hard to move through because I felt like we were really going somewhere and his apology to me felt very genuine and he took full accountability for how he handled the whole situation. In so many ways it felt comforting that he cared that much to apologize but so much more hurtful because he still could not choose me. I guess I’m just feeling really hopeless about it all. I feel like I have a lot to offer and I’ve done a lot of self work over the last few years to be a confident and independent woman but maybe I’m just too fucked up socially to meet people outside of the apps.

Any success stories or kind words would be nice.

Tired of Non-Committal Men

I’m a 24F and I recently was told by a guy I had been dating for about a month and a half that he realized he was unsure if he was ready to commit to a long term relationship. Oldest trick in the book right?

I’m honestly a little shattered over it because he was genuinely so sweet to me. Our dates were lengthy all day into evening dates. He was affectionate and brought me sweets. He did things that made me feel like he was looking for something long term.

He offered to hear and listen to any feelings I had. He was clear that he wanted to be there to listen to whatever it was I wanted to say to him when the time came. I genuinely believe he meant it with good intent and is not saying it as a way to boost his ego. I have a message drafted but I worry sending it is the “wrong” thing to do.

I don’t want him back but I do feel like I deserve to be heard. I’ve always been the type to minimize how I feel out of fear of being too much to make other people more comfortable. I feel like telling him how he made me feel is the right way to go about that.

This is the second man I’ve dated in a row that has made me feel really led on. Lots of affection and care only to realize they’re not ready. I’m tired of dating online but I feel like there’s not many other options. I’m decently social too. I go to the gym and I have friends. I just am not totally sure if vibing in random spaces like coffee shops or bookstore is something that even works. I unfortunately don’t drink and don’t like the bar/club scene.

All good except initiation

I’m a 24F and I’ve been dating a guy for about a month and a half now. We started out pretty strong on the initiation front on his end for the first three dates and the last three dates (6 dates total) it’s been either me initiating or a combined push on my end and follow through on his end for the date to happen. He seems to be really into me otherwise. We call on the occasion and most of our dates have been all day type dates with lots of cuddling and talking. I try not to value texting too much but he’s good about reaching out to me to wish me a nice day and I reciprocate there. He also has been sweet in other ways through helping my clean my house and bringing me sweets. He also initiates plans for ideas to do together but then just doesn’t take the next step of asking me when I would want to do that.

I’m generally a pretty anxious person so I can’t tell if it’s just me or what. I could talk to him about it but I have a lot of fear and apprehension after talks have gone badly in early dating for me. He’s always warm to me in person and over text it never feels dismissive but just never overly initiative. I’m happy to initiate 50/50 but lately it hasn’t felt like the case. I guess yes technically he initiated the first three and I’ll take credit for the next three making 50/50 but I guess I just want a little more pursuit this early on in the dating stage. Maybe he’s comfortable or maybe he’s just not that into me.

In my head it’s like if he wants to see me he would but also life happens and maybe he is thinking the same of me and we’re just mirroring each other lol
