This is a safe place

If you’ve read the news this morning about the incident involving Swans players and felt triggered or affected by it, you’re not alone.

News involving allegations of sexual assault can be confronting and frightening, and it can bring up a lot of difficult emotions - particularly for survivors of sexual assault and those close to them.

I’m posting this simply as a reminder to my fellow Magpies: please look after yourselves and each other today. Reach out to someone you trust or a support service if you need to, and check in on the people around you.

Everyone responds to news like this differently. For some, it’s another breaking-news story. For others, it can bring back experiences and emotions they’ve worked very hard to live with.

Please be mindful of that when discussing or commenting on the story today. ❤️🖤🤍

Brisbane, Australia. Public 7/10

Queen Elizabeth 2 hospital. Lunch and dinner

Lunch: veggie soup. chicken and mushroom with steamed veggies and sweet potato mash. Dessert: fruit jelly with a sweetened milk

Dinner: steamed veggies, mash potato and a well seasoned omelette. Same dessert as lunch.

Honestly, both meals were surprisingly nice and very filling.

The response to the IQ booing actually gave me some hope.

Collingwood Magpies vs Adelaide Crows
Round 20. July 23 2026

Listen, the booing of Issac Quaynor last year and this year in the Adelaide match is not on.

BUT I just wanted to say, as a queer person myself, I’ve been genuinely surprised - in a good way - by how many people across Reddit and other platforms have openly called out the booing and the homophobia.

Many queer people, including myself, still have a guard up. It’s not about will people be accepting; it’s the concern that just being authentic could lead to bullying, harassment, abuse and in the worst situations, violence.

So to all the AFL Redditors who spoke up and said this behaviour wasn’t acceptable, thank you. While Matthew Nicks might say it was “not ideal”, it was reassuring to see so many others recognise it for what it is: discriminatory behaviour. And yes, I know the people booing don’t represent all Crows supporters. (Edit: had to put this in bold for some)

It’s also worth acknowledging that Isaac being a Black player makes the whole situation even more uncomfortable, because it raises the possibility that racism may also be part of what’s driving some of the abuse.

Here’s hoping Pies will play Port in Adelaide from here on. I’m sure those games will be a better watch and good vibes.
