I wish to go from IPS to OLED. I need a realistic, educated and non-biased answer to the WOLED Matte vs Glossy nonsense.

Hello,

I'm upgrading my old rig (RTX 3060, IPS display) to a RTX 5080+9800x3D and I'd like the screen to go with it.
However, I see a lot of extremes on Reddit and it seriously is irritating for someone trying to get a clean idea. I live in a city where there is no way to check the displays in real life.

  1. I'm hesitating between the PG32UCDP and the XG32UCWMG.
  2. My window is behind me, I can't really change the setup ot my room.
  3. I don't play in absolute darkness.
  4. For example, the display of my MacBook Pro M1 feels really reflective, I only play at night almost due to that.
  5. I will play exclusively solo games. I will use the computer for a bit of YouTube here and there.
  6. I have astigmatism and myopia.

I'm tired of seeing « this is dogshit, absolute garbage » comments. I doubt either option is as bad as I read, and I'd like an educated comment, preferably from people who have both.
The hesitation stems from two very opiniated comments I keep seeing:

  1. The matte display absolutely destroys any kind of quality, and honestly cancels the point of having an OLED display.
  2. Reflections are fine in a « lightning controlled environment ». What does that really mean? When my curtain are not fully tucked in my window I can see reflections on my MacBook.
  3. Glossy is considerably better than matte for clarity, colors and beauty.

Honestly I use Reddit for more « human » opinions, but Reddit is also the only place where I see this extreme bias for glossy. I want to know if it's a circlejerk or real.
If you have any questions so I can clarify please don't hesitate.

Thank you

The Steam Controller is great but the triggers are a letdown

Just got my steam controller today. I don’t know if it’s a problem just for my unit but the triggers are really… Light? The sound is a « clack » like nothing is slowing it down, which is a bit of a shame compared to the dual sense for example, where the sound is much deeper, and less noisy.

Anyone experienced this ?

I’ve beaten Elden Ring yet I don’t know how to fight, it’s frustrating.

Today I showed my girlfriend Elden Ring since she was interested after seeing videos. At Gatefront Ruins I fought a knight the way I fight everything: shield up, tank a hit, R1, repeat. It worked. It was also painfully slow, and she was confused. she’d only seen footage of the game looking fast, varied, reactive and creative.

It has always been tedious for me, because I just can’t figure how to be efficient. I fight random mobs like a total noob. As for the build, I want to be creative, have ideas, amazing animations but it’s all so wide I feel overwhelmed. And even if I have an idea I don’t want to redo the whole game just to unlock a weapon. So I end up using the same boring weapon the whole game.

I think the real issue is I never built any instinct for the systems, how to optimize, how to actually use what the game is offering. what beats what, when to punish, when an Ash of War actually solves a fight instead of just looking cool. And the game is so large that finding gear or a playstyle I’d love is often dozens of hours away, so I never switch. Comfort beats curiosity every time.

I know it sounds like I’m putting myself in a jail but I genuinely have no idea what to do. It just seems so hard.

So was there a guide or a video that actually teaches you how to identify the most efficient way (not cheesing) the enemies ? On how to actually understand the game so it never feels tedious instead of hard in a fight and how to deal with this « I saw a cool weapon on YouTube but it’s 15 hours away from me? »

Thanks a lot!!

My Lenovo Legion Slim 7 exploded. I’ve been telling support it was overheating for months.

It scared the living soul out of me.

You can look at my previous posts here. Basically: 4 repairs, laptop still overheating, them telling me it’s normal, then not normal. Escalated twice to EMEA customer care, who wrote that yeah the laptop is defective, but refused to give me a replacement and just… Closed the case ? I thought we had good customer care in Europe.

I never thought it could happen with all the securities in place but yeah, the coil whine I used to hear got much more erratic, thing began fuming so I just noped out of there and it just blew up right in my room. It was like some store crackles popping. Guess they replaced the battery with a faulty one. Sigh…

I just can’t believe such a well known company would do this. Well at least now I’ve got a solid case (instead of a solid laptop) and I’ll be definitely suing them for the damages.

Beware people, don’t trust what these greedy corporations tell you. Workers don’t care, nobody is above them so they can arbitrarily decide to not care. I’m flabbergasted. Even with this post they’ll never right their wrongs but we’ll, as long as I can warn people.

Quitting a job as a junior after only 3 months, how to go about it ?

Hello,

Long story short, I’m in consulting and the environment doesn’t suit me, nor the career path: how it was advertised and how it is are really different. It is really sucking the life out of me, the job feels without purpose and the expectations are out of touch with reality.

I have another offer which is better on all front: more prestigious company, no consulting, better work life balance, better career path…

I know especially in consulting they don’t really care about who you are, but my colleagues and my manager are quite nice.

I know it is somewhat of a naive topic, but I am a junior after all.

Thanks!
