I was super interested to see how much my Tunis yarn would shrink and behave when the locks were some of the sproingiest I’ve ever played with. It was Clemes and Clemes “Good Clean Fibre” (can I use it exclusively please???), such a delight to work with. I tried a few different preps and ended up doing just a single pass on my combs. The extreme stretch was just creating neps galore when I tried carding or blending board. Simply opening the locks was fine, but way too slow lol. I would love a lock pop and have DIYed one occasionally, my skin is too fragile due to EDS to use them much.
Prewash: 31” length
Post wash: 25” length with stretch to 28” (need to grab a pick of it dried, it’s balanced I swear 😂)
When I first started acid dyeing, our extremely hard water caused only the red part of the dye to strike and I solved it by only using distilled water to dye. Since then, I’ve used it successfully on yarn, roving, wool I’ve processed from raw… A new local mill has offered me a chance to create a dyed line of yarn for them and I’m currently creating samples for them. This yarn is scoured by the mill and is a local Targhee. Now I’m having issues with brown not sticking again 😭😭😭 I have rescoured the skeins in distilled without change. Since they are aiming for a more neutral and muted vibe, this is frustrating lol
I would love other ideas because I’ve been dyeing for over 15 years and this is making me crash out 😂

Spun up all the little samples I’ve gotten with various orders and put everyone to soak this afternoon while the sun was warm. There’s lots of Shaniko (new favourite), Falkland, Texel, merino, Cormo, and Corriedale. The first Corriedale I’ve felt was actually nice!
