The 5 Guards Can Coexist
Ima new TrailBlazers fan because of Ja Morant and there are reports saying the Blazers plan on keeping all 5 guards. They believe all 5 guards can coexist and I lowkey think they can too. If they trade Scoot or Shae for a good wing/foward, I am totally for it but it might be in their best interest to keep them.
Ja Morant- Love Ja, but can’t stay healthy (not his fault). However if he is healthy he will be the best out of the bunch (since Dame is not in his prime). I see alot of people worried about him and Dame playing together because of defense which is understandable. But Ja defense is underrated. His on ball defense is not that good because he’s small and not that strong but he’s not a lazy defender. Now his off ball defense is lowkey great. He has quick hands and good instincts. I will say though he tends to overhelp sometimes.
Dame- I 100% believe he’s still capable of putting up 20ppg on good shooting however he can possibly be a shell of his former self, since he is 36 coming off an injury. But I doubt that since he did just won the 3pt contest after being out all season. But if he is not himself, it’s not a big deal since we would still have Scoot and Shae.
Jrue- To contend this year, keeping Jrue is in our best interest. I do believe Ja and Dame will start & finish games together, however I doubt they will play together outside of that. Jrue can play off ball and guard the 1-3 and depending on the matchup he can start and finish games along Ja & Dame. If this 5 guard situation works he’s going to be the reason why.
Shae: Sharpe has the potential to play the 3. He has gotten better every year offensively but this year we need him to be better defensively. He has the athleticism and wingspan of an elite defender. We need him to train along Jrue and Camara this offseason because if he locks in into his defensive potential , he will be able to guard the 1-4 easily.
Scoot- No shade to Scoot, I know Blazers fans love him but I doubt he will become the superstar. He’s still young and has potential so I think it’s in our best interest to keep him. Call me crazy but I feel like Scoot is better off ball, as a 2 guard. Honestly he is not the amazing playmaker but he can put the ball in the basket. I can see him sorta turning into another version of Jrue Holiday, which would be amazing. He would be shorter but he will be more athletic.
Idk I might be tripping but if these 5 guards put the work on these this offseason we are contending for a title:
Ja- Getting Bigger & 3pt Shot
Dame- Get Back to Former Self
Jrue- Mentoring Shae & Scoot
Shae- Defense
Scoot- Grow All Around
With that being said though, we still need a backup tall foward.
