New plant! / What my boyfriend now calls my variegated plants

New plant! / What my boyfriend now calls my variegated plants

Firstly I wanted to share my first variegated alocasia! I’m fairly new to having thriving alocasias let alone a variegated one. I’ve had her for about 2 weeks and she successfully pushed out an all white leaf! I have this plant and just recently got new alocasia tissue cultures, all of which are variegated. I wanted to show them to my bf because he’s not as planty as me. I want to get him a bit more interested (he cheers me on but I want him to get excited abt new leaves, growth, etc).He always jokingly pushes my buttons and I his, but he asked if the plants were sick because they are variegated and I said no and that it was normal. He then stated that he will be calling all of my variegated plants vitiligo plants. My dad has it and I have a bit as well but so long as he finds some humor/joy in my plants it means I can get more 👀 thought some would find this funny, but happy planting to all!

Hi all! I got this guy last week at a convention - he was packaged in saran wrapped sphagnum moss. I moved the moss and him into a cup and added some water. He started to crinkle up - what I assumed lack of humidity. (I am at the start of setting up my first cabinet so I have the cabinet but it’s not fully set up yet and lack some plants to boost humidity. I put him and some other plants in there and ran the humidifier - he’s been in about 72% for this past weekend. Alongside this I wanted to put him and the moss into a better pot (he was in a kitchen glass) but his root system was so long (5+’) that I repotted him in a mix of chunky aroid soil and moss. He is only getting worse and keeps crinkling. I have him next to the humidifier now with a bag drapped over to help hold more humidity and he’s now in 95% and I returned him to sphagnum. Can I save him please help! (Photos are chronological order)

I just got a Blåliden cabinet second hand and am excited to start the process of turning it into my very first plant cabinet and I need some advice from experienced friends! I want to use it primarily to create a humid enclosure for my plants and keep them on shelves that allow for humidity to travel throughout (not the original glass shelves). With this cabinet, it is a single door with hinges. I know I will be putting silicon in all the crevices of the cabinet that are not the door but I am struggling with how to seal off the door itself. I am going to invest in a weather strip for the sides of the door (open side, top, and bottom) but I am at a loss for what to do with the hinged side. I think silicon would prevent me from opening it but I also don’t think the weather strip I am planning to use for the rest of the door would work there. My goal is to make it air tight in order to keep humidity in. Any advice helps, thanks!
