Selling Gen 5 to get a Gen 4 to Save Money & Better Suit Driving Habits?
I have a 2019 SR5 Premium 7-seater that I barely drive, only about 800 km per month for one regular round trip, plus a biweekly Costco run. The rest of the time it sits in the garage. It’s in good shape with relatively low mileage for the year, 166,000kms.
I’m considering selling it and picking up a 2005 sport edition V8 4WD with 262k km for around $8k CAD out the door. Main goal is to save more money long-term by reducing depreciation, insurance, etc.
Financial perspective aside, this a smart move (assuming the frame is in good shape)? Especially with winter rust concerns on the 4th gen. Anyone regret going from a newer 5th gen down to an older one, or had good experiences with high-mile 4th gen 4Runners as a low-usage daily?
Looking for honest takes on reliability, upcoming maintenance (timing belt, frame rust, etc.), and whether it’s worth it for very light driving. As I mentioned before, I only do one 800km round trip once every 4-6weeks, otherwise it’s used for a biweekly Costco run. It sits completely untouched otherwise.
It’s important to note that the 5th gen payment doesn’t really affect me at all, I’m just trying to be practical considering it barely leaves a parking garage.
