Creature removal in casual tables

I was jamming a B3 game at a LGS I don't frequent. Player 1([[Captain N'ghathrod]]) and 3 ([[Narset, Enlightened Master]]) had creatures. Myself and player 2 did not. Player 1 kept hitting me because I was open (which was understandable) and I would throw removal at his creatures when they attacked me from time to time.

When player 3 eventually won, while player 2 and myself were happy for player 3, player 1 asked "Why do you keep removing my creatures?"

I was bewildered by that question, not to mention that I was under the impression that we (as players) should be self preserving (Also couldn't target Narset because she has hexproof). I sheepishly said "okay...", got up, packed my stuff and left.

Because I don't normally play MTG outside of my usual group, let alone a different LGS, this sort of interaction is abnormal, right?

Looking to see if my deck has legs

First time building a cEDH deck that's not the top commander pairings. I am aware that RogIshai is a thing and that deck will grind better. I am also aware that Malcolm Vial is faster, though I am thinking if I could build something that sneaks between the 2.

Kinda like a Jeskai slop pile but with the potential of ripping an early Glinthorn.

Wouldn't be too surprised if I'm going in the wrong direction tbh, part of me is telling me that I'm trying to reinvent a wheel.

Thank you for your time.
