Got my first baby

Super tiny fella, is it okay to keep in a small enclosure until they’re bigger? They’re still a scorpling. Under an inch. Any first time advice?

Extreme reaction to flies

I’ve had a lot of anxiety after this incident that happened two days ago with my horse. I have only had him since March might I add.

I had a riding lesson with my trainer and my horse in our indoor ring. We are in the Midwest and it is summer time. I had fly sprayed him a ton before our lesson. We were inside so I didn’t think the flies were bad, and didn’t really notice them visually when I led him into the ring initially.
It started off pretty normal although he was a little more antsy than usual which should have tipped me off that it was going to escalate. He was more forward than he usually is- eager to avoid flies. At the end of our lesson, during cool out (he was very sweaty so that didn’t help) he lost his mind. He started spinning and bucking and would not stand for me to dismount. Our trainer had to lead us to the gate and I had to emergency dismount because he was either going to flip over or lay down.

This was the first time this reaction has occurred, I know some horses are more sensitive to flies and it was not his fault. It’s just so difficult in the summertime to avoid riding him and getting him out for exercise. I tried riding him in our outdoor ring yesterday and he was antsy (though I did not let it escalate) so I ended our ride when we started to move into a trot .
Any suggestions? I’m so fearful of this happening again. I definitely am keeping a closer eye on flies but we can’t avoid under saddle work. I don’t think outdoor or indoor makes a difference.

Give me your best fly season advice

My new horse had a freakout today during our ride with the flies after I fly sprayed the crap out of him before. It’s hard to avoid work all together with the bugs being a huge problem . What spray or other things do you recommend ?

Is there a reason that certain ponies have bloated appearing heads over others? Is it just the certain mold? I have a sparkle works who I purchased in box that has a very large forehead compared to my other collection ponies.

Leather / tack oil suggestions

What do you recommend someone uses for a very stiff new leather latigo ? I have been using it to ride but it’s so stiff and this is my first leather latigo so I don’t really know what oil works best to soften it.

Uneven muscling on horse

Hi, I bought my second horse in March and have been working really hard to get him in good shape. He is 10 years old, appy x Andy cross . His previous owner was too busy for him and thus he sat for a long time , and just got turned out in a small pen daily without much work. He has some behavioral issues , that we have been working out. And he’s really been showing improvement! It’s clear that he struggles going to the left more than the right. The muscling on his neck shows this and how he rides too. Cantering specifically to the left is super challenging for him, he can typically only go a time around at the canter under saddle to the left. I have been practicing stretching his neck both directions and bending but wanted some advice for other exercises to help him! Any ideas ?

To add:
He’s been seen by the vet. And we had a saddle properly fit to him. He’s not lame. The behavior issues are improving , initially he had ulcers that we treated so the majority of his issues were due to that. He is just lazy due to being out of shape and not wanting to work (I don’t blame him)

Breakthrough bleeding not going away

I have been on my current combination pill for a year now, had my lap in December of last year and haven’t missed any pills and I’m not pregnant. I started getting brown blood about a week ago (several days before my “period”) and it just hasn’t let up. I’m supposed to get my actual scheduled period soon but I’m so scared this breakthrough bleeding isn’t going to go away. I’m not sure what is causing it but it’s causing me a lot of pain and is just super annoying .
I contacted my dr’s office and the nurse just said if my pain is “too bad” then go to the er. The er isn’t going to help this so I’m so frustrated. Anyone have similar experiences?

I had this happen last year . I was on my previous pill for years and had the same thing happen only I bled for months . I had to switch doctors because she wouldn’t help me.

Antibiotics and birth control effectiveness

Why do medical professionals still go around telling people that antibiotics affects birth control. I recently had a sinus infection that led to pneumonia and was put on antibiotics. The provider warned me that my birth control would not be as effective. This myth is really annoying.
