70s Devil Diver

Just picked up this groovy 70's Caravelle and wore it to the office for the frist time. Needs a new bracelet and a crystal polish eventually, just enjoying it for now. Any 20mm bracelet or strap recommendations for this one?

Seeking advise on DCA investing strategy

I am trying to determine the increments and time frame to DCA about $325k in a taxable brokerage. I will be investing in VTI (80%) and VXUS (20%). I am considering investing $4800 and $1200 respectively automatically on a 10 day schedule, but that would take me a year and a half to be fully invested, not including continuing contributions to my savings.

Is this timeframe too long? The market seems over weight right now, but maybe I am being to conservative? All advise is appreciated!

Majestic south end owl. Can anyone ID?

Spotted in the South End, fist time seeing one on a residential street in town. It was totally unconcerned by my presence. Anyone encountered owls on the streets of btv?

Carters Workwear 1956

Pulled it out of a box destined for the dump today. There is a calendar on the back page for 1956. Cool piece!

Pulled from a scrap heap

Pulled this from a scrap metal pile at an estate sale and got it for free. After a short time on my wire wheel it is looking much better. Revealed what looks like an Atha stamp. Would this be considered a railroad sledge or just general purpose? Any idea how old based on the stamp? Thanks all!

Felt cute

If you broke into my house and found my watch drawer, but the police are arriving outside and you only have time to grab two watches. Which two are you fleeing with? Happy Saturday everyone!

Update on flea market CASD

Was able to remove the back and diagnose the intermittent running and chrono reset on the Valjoux 23. A part of the chrono flyback lever which the pusher contacts is snapped off and found it's way into the movement. After about an hour of careful tinkering I was able to extract the broken piece and only had to remove the balance assembly to do it. I oiled a few of the jewels while I was in there. Now it is running very well and keeping excellent time today.

A replacement lever is on the way and should be relatively easy to install to bring the chrono back to full health. In any case.. I polished the crystal, cleaned it up, added a modern bracelet and wore it to work today. Totally obsessed with this watch!

Flea market find! Couldn't believe my eyes

Never thought i would be the one with a 'barn find' to post and I am feeling incredibly lucky. Right place, right time! I cant help but wonder about the life this watch has lived and how it ended up on a flea market table in VT today.

The pusher for the chrono reset isn't working but besides that it is happily ticking. Case back is really tight and I was not able to remove it to check the movement. Appears all original, what do you guys think?

Stone marble

I found this while walking a creek in northern New Jersey 20 years ago. I have always wondered how old it is but have no idea where to start with identification. It is natural stone, probably real marble and about 1/2 - 5/8 inch in diameter. Can anyone shed some light? Much appreciated!

Good bike for touring?

I will be doing a three day bike pack on a rail trail in a few weeks. I have never been touring, and primarily set up this bike up for winter commuting last year. It is 2x10 Sram drive. I have two full size matching Jandd panniers which are not pictured. What do you think, will this be sufficient? Recommend any changes or updates?

New watch day

Bought this for $400 as a non-runner with a cracked crystal. Opened it up and immediately found that one of the dial screws has come loose and become lodged in the hairspring. Easy fix. Oiled all of the jewels and pivots, and she runs like a champ and looks like new. Solid 14k bezel, stainless case.
