I’ve got an old 1970 something case backhoe with the 188 CID diesel motor in it, and was digging a hole, and after probably 4 hours of digging, it was running low on fuel. I shut it off, brought a fuel can over, filled it up, and went to start it, and the starter wouldn’t turn it over. I pulled the starter off, tried to bar it over on the flywheel teeth, and I can get it to turn at least 20 or 30 degrees, not sure how much actually, before it no longer rotates at all.
I didn’t notice any sound when I shut it off, but the muffler is hanging on by half a bolt, so it’s hard to hear anything anyway.
The transmission was in neutral, and I pulled the hydraulic pump off the front of the crankshaft, so it’s something in the engine. My best guess is a spun bearing, but I’m not sure, what do you all think?
