Tried a new angle for barrels this weekend. Do barrel racers like these? I have more but these are a few randoms I processed real quick for some teaser uploads.

Hey Ya’ll. Someone sent me a link to this group a while back but I guess it was hiding from me.
I’m in Upstate South Carolina and I kind of fell into some rodeo photography a year or two ago. I try to make time for it but I can’t do regular stuff due to real job constraints.

70-200 (F VR2 and FL versions) Collar repair.

I dabble in repair of Nikon stuff as long as it doesn’t get too deep. In fact, I think most shooters would benefit from doing this to know how their stuff works and how robust or fragile some of it is.

Long story short, a user in a FB group posted an issue with a free spinning collar that appeared to be non-serviceable.

My replies were met with how I was incorrect about how these lenses were assembled, so instead of arguing I took my lens apart for demonstration and hopefully helping someone along the way. I feel the free spin issue was cause by damaged threads to the tension knob or wear on the friction pad attached to the knob.
Both are easy repairs. This took about 10 min while taking pictures.

Notes:
-To access the screw port the tape covering will prob be destroyed. Just replace with gaff or electrical tape.
-I’m also not entirely sure the flat head screws is required to remove the collar
-The small Phillips (cross-maybe JIS) head screws that are removed in the second the last pic have 3 components. A screw, a bearing, a shim. Take note of orientation.
