Lens Comparison

I have 2 lens for my Sony Alpha 7C. One that came with the camera and the one that I bought to take more nature shots.

FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 Lens.
FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Zoom Lens

Recently I dropped my FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 Lens which cause it to no longer be able to zoom in or out. Other then that, the lens still work.

My question is, is there anything the FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 Lens does better? I am thinking of repairing it but unsure if it’s worth it since the FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Zoom Lens seems better in every way.

How to get that same dreamy look as The Substance

I'm working on a short film that is essentially a cannibal love story between cannibal and victim (based on a true story in Germany) and love the dreamy look and quality of The Substance. I'm pretty sure the glass used was the Leitz Thalia Primes and I would want to use a Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K (which I can get access to). I'm not sure if I will have time to do an actual lens test but have been looking around before committing. Has anyone used these lenses and are they worth it to get that look of The Substance? I saw this lens test and wondering if there are any others like it?

Is this noise normal?

I just got a Sony 16-50 kit lens from Vinted for around 65€. The seller said it was supposedly in barely used condition and aestethically speaking it looks as so. But when zooming in or out, it has this weird noise. Is this normal? Or is it worrying? Should I send it back?

Also, ignore my father's coughing please lmao.

What camera is affordable and has decent picture qualities on close/zoomed in pictures?

I'm trying to find a camera that can take a picture of my eye, where the quality of the picture is good enough to see the blood vessels on the sclera? I'm not asking for perfect quality because that's too expensive, but I want something good enough that I can clearly see the eye and the blood vessels without it being very blurry.

If you guys do know a camera that can do that, please tell it to me! If possible, it would be much preferred if the camera is available in my country (Philippines)

(PS: The camera does not need to be a full blown camera, a small camera or webcam is good enough, as long as it can do what I intended it to do.)

Thank you very much and I hope you guys have a great day/night!

Are Nikon AF-D lenses the most versatile lens system?

I’ve been doing some research on the Nikon AF-D lens system and compatibility and I think I’ve found something interesting.

AF-D lenses sit in this really unique sweet spot where they have a manual aperture ring but also have autofocus compatibility. This is something I haven’t seen on other systems from the same era.

With manual film SLR cameras like the Nikon F3 or FM, they meter perfectly and you can still stop down the aperture ring just like you normally would. But then you put the lens one something like a autofocus film SLR like the Nikon F5 or N80 and the lens still works great with good autofocus, working aperture, and great metering. Finally you can put it on a full frame DSLR like the Nikon D800 or D700 and it still works fantastic.

The sheer amount of options you have is amazing.

This means that a set of AF-D lenses- like a 50mm, 35mm, and a telephoto zoom- could be the only three lenses you need for all of your different body’s. One set of glass for three completely different eras of camera.

When I got into photography I wish that someone told me this when I first started. I have a canon EF system that works on both autofocus film SLR and DSLR cameras. After finding this I am thing about moving over to AF-D. I think that this is the perfect system if someone wants to do the whole gear minimalism thing.

My questions for people who use this system:

1: Has anyone built a full system with AF-D lenses to use across all these eras of camera?

2: What body’s are you using these lenses on and how does the same lens feel going from film to digital?

3: What are you using across all body’s? (Focal length, f stops, zooms?)

4: What are the limitations of this system and what problems have you had with it?

I want to know if this is a known thing that people are taking advantage of or if this is something that people just find out by accident.

Canon 5D Mark IV Lens Comparison: Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L vs. Yongnuo 35mm f/2. Should I upgrade to the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L?

Lens Comparison: Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L vs. Yongnuo 35mm f/2.

Should I upgrade to the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L?

I'm having a bit of a lens dilemma, and I'd love your help in figuring out what's going on. I recently acquired a used Canon 5D Mark IV and have been practicing photography. While experimenting with different lenses, I've come across an issue that's got me stumped.

Currently, I have a few lenses from different price points ($1,000+ vs sub $100), but when it comes to testing their sharpness, clarity, and overall image quality, I'm not seeing the expected differences. To put my question into perspective, I've attached two images captured on the Canon 5D, with two different lenses, shot back-to-back in a controlled environment (2 feet away, handheld, of a test pattern printed onto printer paper). I'd love to get your opinion on which lens is the more expensive one and which is the cheaper one.

I've zoomed in significantly to compare the sharpness of focus. While the macro function on my phone can reveal the individual pixels on the printed paper, neither of the lenses I'm testing can quite match that level of detail.

Now, here's where things get a bit tricky - I'm questioning whether I'm doing something wrong or if these lenses are simply not capable of focusing any further. I've considered factors like sensor limitations and lens optical capabilities, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter.

My question: Should I upgrade the cheaper lens to a more expensive one with better specs? Or am I throwing good money at a problem that's not really there?

I'm open to any recommendations or advice you might have. If you need more information or images from each lens, please let me know, and I'll do my best to provide them.

TL;DR: Lens testing conundrum - help me decide whether to upgrade a cheaper lens or if I'm just experiencing an optical illusion.

noob question, how a manufacturer determines a lens is a specific f-stop when first created? is there an independent body confirming a lens is f/2.8 or f/1.2 or f4? do they test for light gathering or depth of field on a test subject?

Glare/reflection issue with Viltrox EF- micro four thirds adapter!

I recently bought a Viltrox EF-micro 4 thirds adapter. I attached a Samyang 50mm EF mount lens to the adapter and my Lumix GH5s camera.

Immediately I noticed a white glare in the image. Anything I shoot is unusable so you can imagine how disappointed I am..

Ive included a video so you can see the issue. It tends to happen when pointing towards a light source.

Has anybody else had this problem , or can offer any advice? Thanks

Need advice : XF 16-50 or keep current setup?

Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded from the X-T30 II to the X-T50 because I wanted something compact that I’ll actually take with me every day/travel/city trips.

Now I’m doubting if I should also get the XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 WR or if my current lenses are already enough, especially because I keep reading that the XF 16-50 performs better on the newer 40MP sensors.

Current lenses:
- XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6
- XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4
- TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8 pancake

Would the XF 16-50 actually give noticeably better image quality for my use case, or is it mostly better build quality/WR/autofocus?

Here are some examples of the type of photos I made with my xt30ii and I think the most of these are taking with the xc 15-45mm because it is so light and compact.

Would love to hear your experiences or advice on the lens, thank you so much!

Is this crazy or just kinda cool?

I bought a house and this was in one of the cabinets in the basement. Looks unused, untouched, and in the original packaging. The "East Germany" embossment got me wondering if I might have something special here...

Thypoch announces 24-50mm f/2.8

Thypoch just announced the 24-50mm f/2.8 constant aperture lens. At just 432g, it’s a very nice alternative to the Sony variant or other prime lenses, especially for travel. I have not tested this lens but I’ve reviewed a couple of Thypoch lenses in the past and they’ve been great.

At EUR 539 / USD 619 at the Thypoch store, you can grab another 5% off using the code “LEICALENSLIST”.

https://store.thypoch.com/products/voyager-24-50mm?ref=LEICALENSLIST

This is in my opinion a good value for a 24-50mm zoom and I’m honestly waiting out for other reviewers to test this lens. Do you guys have any thoughts?

is it worth upgrading from 90mm to 100mm GM?

Hi all,

I am mostly a dental photographer using the Sony A7CR with Sony 90mm Macro lens. I was thinking about switching to 100mm GM Macro but was just curious whether the upgrade would be worthwhile in my case.

The only photos I take are intraoral dental photos shot between f/16-f/22 using flash. Thus, the teleconverter compatibility and overall capabilities are not very relevant for me.

All I am after is maximum sharpness and detail rendering for clinical dental photography.

So, for those of you who have used both the lenses,

Are there any differences in sharpness anf detail when shooting in those apertures?

Is the new 100mm GM lens sharper/better when shooting dental macros?

Are theese scratches going to affect the image quality?

I want to buy the Nikkor 28mm f2.8 ai-s and this the most reasonably priced one where I live. There are many micro scratches on the front element (you can see them in the picture) and I'm worried they will be visible in the image. I will be shooting digital with this lens(Nikon D700). I need some advice on whether I should buy this lens. Thanks.

Anybody know if this 70-300mm lense would work on my Sony NEX-6 camera given the correct adapter?

Don’t know that much about lenses and how the software/hardware in them runs/interacts with the cameras. Given I bought an adapter online would they likely work together? I’ve had trouble finding anything on this specific lense but I believe it’s for a Pentax?
