Advice for airshow, which lens do you recommend for Sony A7V?

I recently went to an airshow here in the UK with this current kit:

Sony A7V
Sony 24-70 F2.8 GMII
Sony 70-200 F4 GMII

What I noticed is the lack of reach the 70-200 gave me. Next week I am flying to Oshkosh, the largest airshow I the world and I am going to want to get better shots than these… I lost sharpness all over the place, way too much cropping in and actually it was difficult to get in focus so far away.

My options seem to be:

Tamron 50-400
Sony 100-400 F4.5-5.6
Sony 70-200 F2.8 x1.4 teleconverter?

The new Sony 100-400 looks too big for me to run around with at an airshow….

What you suggest here, budget isn’t toooo much a concern but weight and size is!

Thanking you so much in advance.

Which macro lens for 70D?

I use since some years now a Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro with Life-Size Converter for my macro shoots. Posted couple of shots I made on simple subjects.

I’d like to explore a bit more naturalistic macro world and can’t decide in between EF 100mm f/2.8L and EF 180mm f/3.5L. Unfortunately I can’t rent them to try myself.

Although I do have some experience with handheld tele without IS (e.g. 200mm f/2.8L and 400mm f/5.6L) need some advice from people with direct experience about the macro on a crop sensor.

Thanks!

Lens damaged?

I'm just starting my new hobby with this cam and I can't stop thinking if this is debris or if my lens got damaged. Tried wiping it off with microfiber cloth in a circular motion spiral outwards and this thing couldn't budge off. Thats why I'm assuming it's within the lens.

And the most concerning thing is I hope this doesn't ruin the photo after development. Or am i just being too concerned in this situation.

What travel camera lens should I buy for Sony a6700?

Hi! I am an amateur when it comes to photography lol I got the Sony a6700 because I wanted to capture better photos than what I get from my iPhone. I got the kit lens of 18-135mm. Does anyone have any recommendations for lenses I could travel with? I like to take landscape photos and portraits. I feel like the kit lens is a bit big and annoying to carry around.

Anyone has vintage lenses in LA?

I have a Sony a7iii and i want to get a vintage lens for it.

I'm tight on budget and would ideally test different lenses on my camera so i know what to get and if it's worth it.

Does anyone in the LA area have vintage lenses that i can test in person on my camera?

I would pass by and test them briefly if possible.

I can get you a donut or something..

Thank you my dudes!

Sony a6400 using 75-300 mm lens considering switching to sigma 150-600mm.

Hey guys, I’ve recently gotten my Sony a6400 and with it a telescopic 75-300mm lens. I mainly shoot close ups of animals and at airshows, so I need a lot of zoom. For this very reason I’ve been looking into the sigma 150-600. However, a friend of mine has said that his photos with it were very soft and blurry compared to his other ones. He uses a canon 80d. I was just wondering if there were any compatibility issues with the camera, and if I should still consider getting it for my Sony a6400.

23mm f2.8 vs f2

Hi, I have an xpro3, and I'm having a hard time choosing between the 23m fujicron and pancake. The pancake is more expensive but has a clear edge on portability. The fujicron is cheaper and more solid (my 27mm pancake died out on me, perhaps due to front to back compression, but not certain. It just wont work, makes the camera freeze).

Would greatly appreciate any feedback here.

Need a secondary lens that is very versatile

Purchased a used ef 70-200 mm f2.8 for sports photography and now I’m looking for a second lens that I can utilize has a universal lens. Portraits, close up shots for sports mostly, anything else. I was looking at the 28-70 mm f2.8 ef lens (I know about the crop sensor) and was going settle on that but maybe there may be more suggestions so I can look into that. For reference I have a canon r50

Is this serious? What should I do?

Thanks for your help by the way!!

I found this scratch on my lens, and I didn't know what caused it. It doesn't seem to affect the photo, but would there be any problems in the future? I'm new to cameras, so I don't know what to do with this...

Furthermore, I came to photograph a stream today, and suddenly it rained. I tried to keep my camera away, but water still leaked in. Thus, the first few drops of rain also made the camera somewhat wet. I've briefly dried the camera and the lens using some tissues, and currently drying it in a room with a fan and an air conditioner on "dry" mode. Would this help drying it? I don't have any silica gels, or oatmeal as my friend told me to. The images were blurrier afterwards, and also the focus seemed worse.

What is happening to the camera and the lens?

Fujinon ZA17x7.6 BERD-S6 — S6 Servo Unit not correctly mounted, EPD-21A not working properly — how to reattach and calibrate?

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a Fujinon ZA17x7.6 BERD-S6 broadcast lens and an EPD-21A-A02 Focus Demand. When testing the setup without a B4 camera (with V-Mount battery), the focus servo finds the endpoints incorrectly and makes grinding noises as if it’s trying to go past the mechanical limits.

After contacting Fujinon directly, they confirmed:

* The EPD-21A-A02 is fully compatible with the ZA17x7.6

* Operation without a B4 camera is possible with correct 12V power supply on Pin 6

* They suspect the S6 servo unit may have been removed and not correctly reattached by a previous owner — some screws appear to have been tampered with

Now my questions are:
Has anyone reattached a Fujinon S6 servo unit themselves? The unit has 3 gear wheels that interface with the lens. How do you correctly align and reattach it, and is there any way to recalibrate the servo endpoints without a B4 camera or Fujinon service software?

Any help would be greatly appreciated — trying to avoid sending it to Fujinon service if possible.

Thanks!

Dust particle inside camera lens on 17 pro which I bought yesterday. I just wanted to ask if it hinders image quality in any way. Even if it’s a tiny bit.

Should I sell my Full Frame ultra-wide zoom (16-28mm f2.8 if I’m moving to Medium Format (Hasselblad 28P) and pocket4pro

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on streamlining my gear setup. I currently shoot with multiple systems, each assigned to specific roles:

Leica SL2-S: My main workhorse for client photo shoots and video.
My primary lenses here are a 16-28mm f/2.8 and a 50mm f/1.2.

Hasselblad X2D: My dedicated setup for landscape photography and occasional client portraits. I prefer keeping this system relatively compact. Right now I have the 45P, and I am planning to buy the 28P (approx. 22mm Full Frame equivalent).

My Dilemma:
Once I get the Hasselblad 28P, I know the medium format file quality for landscape work will completely blow the Full Frame 16-28mm . Because of this,

my mind is telling me that I don’t really need the ultra-wide zoom on the Leica anymore.
If I drop the 16-28mm from my Leica kit, its only remaining advantage would be wide-angle video. However,

I am also planning to buy the upcoming DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro , which will likely handle my walk-around wide video needs much better anyway due to the integrated gimbal and zoom capabilities.

The Question:
Should I sell the 16-28mm f/2.8 to help fund the 28P and lighten my daily carry load? Or is it wiser to just keep it as a backup "just in case" example bad weather day because hasselblad is not weather seal

I'm searching for a used Nikon 16-80mm f2.8 (shooting on a d7500). What should I expect to pay for something in good condition, functions as new with no problems. Also, will I still benefit from a 35mm 1.8 prime, or is that going to be close enough that it makes the prime lens redundant?

Is it safe to rotate zoom ring while the tension ring is in tight mode?

I am new to the field of photography. I recently bought a canon 100-400 EF 2 lens. Initially, for a few times I rotated the zoom ring while the tension ring was in tight mode. I felt the resistance. Then I realised I should keep it in smooth mode for work. My question is whether this might have caused any internal problems.

Lens repair help: Soligar 28mm 2.8 (Komine made)

I recently picked up a Soligar 28mm 2.8 (Komine build), and later discovered one of the elements is loose.

As seen in the video, I've removed the name plate and outermost lens (along with the focus ring).

I cannot figure out how to access the next layer down to access the loose element in order to assess for damage or simply tighten up a loose fitting.

Can anyone provide guidance? I'm reticent to go too far unscrewing things as there don't seem to be any service manuals or tutorials.

YouTube has not been helpful. Old forums have deadlinks or are different makes of the lens.

Thanks for any help you can provide. This is a bizarre little lens and I'd love to see it rescued.
