Nikon F3 stuck mirror & faulty shutter
Hi everyone. I’ve got a unique problem with a recently purchased Nikon F3 that’s solution has eluded me.
The mirror is stuck in the up position and can only be brought down by manually pulling the mirror or the mirror lever/DOF check on the inside of the camera (lens off). From looking at functional cameras, this lever should return upwards after firing, but it remains stuck in the down position leading the mirror to be stuck up.
This mirror lock also affects the shutter curtain charging. While locked up, if crank the film advance it will advance all the way to the end but fail to catch the shutter, and the shutter will release. If I lower the mirror to its viewing position manually and then crank the lever, the shutter will catch.
When lowering the mirror manually and then cocking the shutter I’m able to release the shutter using the manual lever (batteries out) and normal shutter release (batteries in). The LCD also works from what I can tell.
If anyone has experience with this issue on any Nikon cameras with electromagnetic shutter releases please let me know.
