OK, I'm back to humiliate myself publicly
Remember 68 days ago when I compared Jared Young to Pete Alonso?
Well, I'm back for an update.
As you can see above, Pete is winning in every rate-based and cumulative stat except batting average, and that only by 5 points.
Some added bonuses...
WPA:
Alonso 2.6
Young 1.1
dWAR/TZR/DRS at 1B
Alonso -0.5/4/1
Young -0.1/2/4
WAR/g * 100
Alonso 2.742
Young 2.105
But I think the better question is: would we be better off with Baty at 3B and Alonso ($31M AAV) at 1B vs Bichette ($42M AAV) at 3B and Young at 1B?
Unfortunately both Baty and Young haven't played a lot of the year at their main positions, Young due to injury, Baty shuffled around, so using WAR wouldn't work properly.
Just for the heck of it though, I'll use OPS+ to at least compare the duos offensively and per $AAV.
Baty + Alonso OPS+
72 + 140 =212
Salaries: 0.8M + 31M =31.8M
6.66 OPS+/Million
Bichette + Young
95 + 118 =213
Salaries: 42M + 1.2M =43.2M
4.93 OPS+/Million
