Replacing my Bose QC Ultra Gen1
In 2024 I received my Gen 1 Bose QC Ultras from support to replace a dead pair of QC IIs I bought in 2023. Now in 2026, the right earbud housing is splitting apart underneath the support band where the two halves join.
Bose support is offering to replace these with Gen 2s for $200. But I figured for that 'replacement' price I may as well shop around for alternatives. From what I've seen online, the top contenders are:
- Sony WF-1000XM6 or WF-1000XM5
- Technic EAH-AZ100 or EAH-AZ80
- Putting some superglue on the QC Gen 1 housing and praying.
I've seen plenty of other top choices thrown around and on posts from this subreddit. There's so much it's a bit overwhelming, so I'd like to at least list a few other factors in my choice before going the 'screw it' route and going with whichever of these I can get from my local best buy the fastest.
- I'd mainly be using these for travel or doing chores around the house. Top two priorities are sound quality and ANC.
- My other use would be working out (weightlifting & running) but I'm debating getting something cheaper for this.
- My phone is an Android OnePlus 13. So I'll be ignoring any Airpod recommendations and giving special attention to anything that integrates well with androids.
- I've heard some good things about OnePlus earbuds but not seen them mentioned as frequently as others.
Give me your thoughts on these contenders or share a few you think would integrate well with a OnePlus that I should consider.
