


My pitch for: overhauling the air read call in
So , the air raid feature. We all hate it. It's a gamble 90% of the time and even when it does hit and take a big wave of Infantry out of the action it's nothing that a regular artillery couldn't do.
But how do we buff this feature?
Well I'll be making some suggestions to answer that very question.
In my mind the idea of an air raid is pretty solid. You call in some bombers and they hit a wide area.
I don't want to change what it is at a foundational level. But I do want to start building a nice house on it.
So my first idea is something I would simply call ' Para raid '
A smaller flight of three aircraft but instead of dropping bombs onto the point they instead drop A.I paratroopers.
Naturally this would be unique to the map
( You wouldn't see the falschimjager in Japan for example )
But if you were using a radio sqaud that happened to be apart of the USMC then you would see paramarines.
Using an Italian radio sqaud ? Then here come some Italian paratroopers dropping onto and around the point.
This would be three sqauds of paratroopers. If it wouldn't be to much to ask I'd like them to drop with Thier para boxes as well so the A.I could independent choose wether they wanted to be assaulters , marksmen , Anti Tank or even motarmen.
That way one sqaud of A.I could push the object as assaulters. Be covered by a sqaud of marksmen whilst under fire support from a sqaud of motarmen.
This would have a shorter cool down then a regular air raid. Say five minutes , and would be compatible with Artillery strikes.
( Naturally if you've called the para raid you'd have the artillery cool down as well )
Now. That's alot of moving parts I admit but goal would be to allow people to be team players by using the para raid.
That is also only my first suggestion.
So my second suggestion would be to order strategic firebombing
We'll call this is a fire raid.
( Not my greatest name I'll admit )
Instead of dropping an explosive payload instead a flight of five bombers would instead drop fuel tanks. Coating a large area in fire setting anyone alight if they were so unfortunate to be caught in it.
Naturally if your teammates have called this in then you'd have 80% reduction in fire damage taken. And you'd be able to stand in it for a bit longer before catching fire.
This could be a good offensive and defensive option. And thanks to the new fire spreading mechanic could make maps like seelow heights really hectic. The whole map could be ablaze heh heh.
This would have a regular cool down so whatever it is in game now and wouldn't be compatible with Artillery strikes.
That was my second suggestion.
And now for my third and final suggestion
I'm going to call this a 'full English' raid.
A , throw everything at them kind of approach.
What's our main complaint with the bombers. They aren't deadly enough. Rarely will you see a full flight of bombers actually do the damage they were meant to.
So. To counteract this i propose this.
A flight of 15 aircraft. 10 heavy bombers and 5 escort fighter planes.
The 10 bombers would see a payload increase. From an average what can be 100lbs bombs ( although I've seen 50lbs bombs be used in game by bombers. I think that was because of an Italian radio sqaud...I digress)
Anyway an increased payload from an average of 100lbs bombs...
Being increased to, Two 1000lbs bombs...each. So that would be a payload of 20'00lbs being dropped onto the enemy. Leaving mass casualty and destruction in Thier wake. And that's just the bombers.
Naturally if you knew such a heavy raid was about to take place. You'd scramble your fighters and man your AA guns.
That's where our escort fighters come in. For the first time ever A.I fighters would dogfight real players in the air. Alongside strafing enemy positions if they were close enough.
Well. Such a heavy raid couldn't use the regular time scale so...I propose a 12 minute cool down. Meaning it can't be spammed. But if the games dragging on long enough you may get two heavy raids.
Well. That's the overall suggestions uh...well suggested. Let's go over a few minor fixes to make the air raid feature better by default.
First off , allow artillery strikes to be used in conjunction with air raids. Simple fix.
Second one that comes to mind is to increase the speed of the bombers.
You call them and it feels like it takes another minute and a half to reach the map.
And thirdly. Increase the payload in general. At least 250lbs. To be frank. Maybe even 500lbs.
Anyway. That's my pitch.
