I need to know how to control my vocal chords so I can compress them for different screams, are there any tips / exercises I can get

Im like 16 and I've been getting really into like metalcore and saw a couple bands with false chords and gutturals do it live and ive honestly wanted to start a nintendocore band in the future.

But I wanna learn how to do proper steps before actually screaming so I can reduce my odds of damaging my vocal cords, how should I start/ What type of singing to do first?
