Ground meat: On top of rice?

I know chunks of chicken, thin beef, Chinese sausage etc are ok, but if the meat is ground does that pose a problem?

Alice Ghostley: More than Esmerelda

Posted on FB this morning by James Grissom.

Alice Ghostley received the 1965 Tony Award as Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in Lorraine Hansberry’s “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window.” Marian Seldes told me about seeing it. [This conversation is from 2007, after we had heard that Ms. Ghostley had passed away.]

“She [Alice Ghostley] wasn’t as famous as she became later with those wonderful performances on television. In New York we knew her as a brilliant actress, particularly in comedic roles, but I never thought that was all she could do. I did know—and I still know—that people will cast an actress in roles that are like others that brought them to their attention. I had a feeling there was a shattering, frightening dramatic performance in her. There always is.

“I remember her in 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐵𝑒𝑎𝑢𝑡𝑦 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑡 [by S.J. Perelman] and the detail, the precision, of her performance was extraordinary. In the Hansberry play, you laughed at her character, but you did not laugh at Alice Ghostley. People who are so confined and deformed by their prejudices are funny as well as frightening. She was so unafraid to let us see her confusion, her struggling, her failed attempts to just change things. She reminded me of Jacques Tati struggling with an appliance or a door or a city. Yes, it was funny, but Alice has a face, an expression, that then has you feeling for her. I recognized that I, too, have prejudices, and they limit and they frighten me. I thought she was brilliant.”

What helpful device would you bring back?

I guess they are fire hazards—like laundry chutes—but boy, I’d love to see dumbwaiters back in vogue.

Now that arthritis is kicking in, what a joy it would be to load one up with fresh laundry and watch it rise, majestically, from the basement laundry room. Beats trudging up the stairs ANY day.

How about you?

Tina’s Burritos: Safeway sale

Grateful to the group for introducing me to the Tina’s brand. Holy cow, I was putting together a pickup order from Safeway today and saw that they are about 60 cents each at the moment!

PMR flare: Tomato trigger?

Have been diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. Had been doing a bit better then had a horrible flare the other day.

I had been eating my way thru a small basket of cherry tomatoes….and that’s the only thing different that I could pinpoint.

How are you guys with nightshade triggers? Not just PMR folks, but all of us with autoimmune.

Relief for hand/wrists when I need a mobility device

My major issue is polymyalgia rheumatica, with major upper body pain.

At the same time, I’m having some leg issues. I’ve borrowed an upright walker (with the chair available as needed), but I’m just wondering:

My hands and wrists are so sore—remember how crutches felt on the palm of your hand? Is there an alternative mode of device? Do any of you have some sort of hand support that lessens the pain?

This new territory for me and I’ve basically been in bed for two weeks.

Im going to move it and try again, lol.

But my raisin bread had a pretty dark crust on some sides. (trying to post two pics, but it's not letting me.)

does the machine "need" air circulation for optimal performance? or was this just a fluke?

only my third loaf, using a like new Cuisinart Convection from Goodwill for $20.
