International helmets

Looking for a new helmet. Thinking about getting a equi-pro from International Helmets. Valley vet doesn't have a lot of options and no reviews for this one. Hoping to get some feedback. I'm not going to lie it's been more than five years since I've replaced mine😬 so it's about time.

Please take care of yourself, especially this weekend

As a mental health therapist and a fellow loss mom, I just want to give you a friendly reminder to take care of yourself always and especially this weekend. This weekend can be emotionally brutal for all of us, no matter if our loss was recent or years ago.

Here are some tangible steps

  1. limit social media (yes, even Reddit)

  2. give yourself permission to say no to events that are triggering (ie mother day lunches with Mil or your own mother)

  3. do whatever coping (hopefully healthy) strategies helps you (ie binge watching a non triggering show while eating all the oreos your stomach can handle or going outside and getting your garden ready to plant).

  4. call or text 988 if you are experiencing any suicidal ideations. We went through a lot so sometimes thoughts of suicide do occur. That is nothing you are doing wrong, but is a sign that you need support.

Keeping all of my fellow moms and our babies in my thoughts ❤️

Finding a good place to board is seeming to get harder and harder. This may be because of the growing costs of everything, but also barn owners (rightfully so) getting frustrated with the horse owners.

My barn is arguably the best barn in the area in regards to reasonable costs, a barn owner who is a seasoned horsewoman who treats each horse as her own, and fantastic amenities. My barn is really a unicorn. Unfortunately, though, my barn owner has had to make changes including not accepting any new horses (except for current boarders) and has given notice to many boarders to find a new location. She did not do this lightly and had to do so because she was not able to find good help, specific boarders eating up her time and her family's time, and other things that have added up over time. I was lucky to be able to stay due to being an "easy boarder" and having an "easy horse".

Therefore I thought it might be fun and informative to create a post where people say what makes for good boarders or if you are a boarder...what you do to help out the barn and owners. Hopefully if horse people become better boarders, there will continue to be good barns out there. I'll go first.

Myself

- clean up after myself (sweep aisles, clean my horses stall if I grab my horse from the stall, and clean up anything I may have taken out)

- if I see something out of place, correct it. For example instead of just sweeping the aisle I'm in, I'll also clean the next aisle. It takes a couple more minutes, but I'm sure it's much appreciated. I'll also clean up other horses poop or pick up other people's items. It only takes a couple minutes and it's less work for the barn owner. Heck I'll even give the bathroom a quick clean if I see it's messy when I use it

- reset the arenas even if equipment was there before (we are a multidisciplinary facility so we're supposed to reset after each use- this may be different for h/j facilities)

- I'll occasionally provide "restock" barn items like hand soap, toilet paper, paper towel, feminine products, ECT.

- I stay out of drama. I've been there for 5 years so people have learned I don't engage but if they vent I'll just say "I'm sorry that happened to you" and then not say anything more. I go to the barn to spend time with my horse so I mind my own business and be as respectful as possible to everyone.

- I try and do as much "mental load" tasks as possible (keep track of all my supplements, keep track of weather so I can switch my own blankets, keep track of deworming schedules, ECT.)

- pay on time, if not early, in cash

- give Christmas and birthday presents

- say specific thank yous often

- my husband and I help out with hay every year and have helped with fence fixing projects.

My horse

- I keep him in active work so he doesn't cause chaos in his field

- I am strict on his ground manners so anyone should be able to handle him

- I keep his equipment in good shape, and would repair or replace anything he broke (which luckily hasn't happened but I let the barn owner to know if he ever causes any problems I will be there as soon as possible or fix anything as soon as possible)

Im hoping that there are more things I do that makes me a good boarder, and my horse a good boardee, but that's all I can think of for now.

Restocking my coffee and my goal is to try some new ones since I'm a creature of habit.

Looking to try some ice coffee and am going to try the ice leggero. However there is one for 1.25 a pod and one for 1.35 a pod. The descriptions look similar so I'm wondering the difference?

Also any recommendations on good pods for ice coffee is much appreciated! I'm not usually an iced coffee fan but really liked Nola when I tried it so I'm going to get outside my comfort zone

Edit: I'm wondering if Nespresso staff are watching this subreddit because I went to order and the 1.25 priced ones are greyed out 😂 oh well.

Looking to up my fidget game as I've gotten a lot more pre teens and teens lately who will talk up a storm as long as their hands are busy. A couple like to destroy things and I can't keep on buying colored pencils because they've sharpened them down to nubs or stress balls because they've torn them apart.

ISO

- fidgets that stimulate destroying things

- fidgets that stimulate organizing/ordering

- any of your favorite fidgets

Thank you in advance!
