Recommend Movies with Proper, Unfiltered Yearning!!
Hi,
I'm looking for some romance movies that aren't the mainstream romcoms. I've watched a great deal of those, and while they are fun feel-good movies, I don't get butterflies from watching them. The yearning, which is what I'm looking for, is almost always not there.
Also I'm looking for movies where the love is healthy. Not a fan of the "mean, not nice, not vulnerable, closed off, nonchalant guy who changes for the girl" trope tbh. It was fun when I was younger but not anymore. Also don't like fantasy so don't recommend that genre if you can help it. And finally I don't like the forbidden love, or someone having an affair trope.
To help with recs, my favorite ships are from:
- To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before- loved the yearning in the books esp but the movies, esp the first one, are my comfort films
- Pride & Prejudice (2005)- Mr Darcy, King of Yearners!!
- A Walk to Remember
- Mary J Blige's Trilogy- Real Love, Strength of a Woman, Family Affair
- Sir (2018)
- Always (2011)
- Out of Africa
- Beyond the Lights
- Me Before You- I cried. I cried. I cried.
- Little Forest- Really loved the banter between the mc and the guy. Even if it wasn't gonna be a romantic relationship, I loved the connection very much.
- Lessons in Chemistry (not a film but omg Calvin!!)
- Like Water for Chocolate (1992)- The doctor guys!! I need more guys written like him.
- Never Have I Ever (not a film but omg Ben and Devi!!)
- He's Just Not That Into You- Alex and Gigi
- Legally Blonde- Loved Emmett!
- Dear John- Loved John's vulnerability. You get what I'm saying when I talk about yearning?
Ahh guys I think I loved everything I watched. 🤣 So, I'll just leave it at that. Hope you get the vibe. Here's my Letterboxd list of what I've watched, if it helps: https://letterboxd.com/misscutielottie/list/love-conquers-all/ If I didn't include a movie above, I probably didn't find that yearning aspect in it.
I want films that leave me with all the feels, and open me up to new perspectives of love. I don't want over the top performance or romantic gestures. Just give me love expressed as raw and simple as possible. Plsss I need to blush into my pillow, giggle, and kick my feet in the air asap lol.
Recommend away! Thanks. 🌷
