Do you think modern rom-com movies have lost something? Looking for honest feedback on an essay I made.

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking a lot about why older romance films seem to linger with people in a way many newer ones don't. I ended up making a short video essay exploring that idea not to argue that older movies are automatically better, but to understand what changed.

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback, especially from people who watch a lot of films.

Specifically:

  • Do you agree with the central idea?
  • Was there anything you thought I missed or oversimplified?
  • Did the argument feel convincing?
  • Most importantly, did the video keep your attention, or were there parts that dragged?

I'm trying to become a better writer and filmmaker, so I'm looking for criticism as much as praise.

Here's the video:

Thanks for taking the time if you decide to watch it.

What’s a romance movie moment that felt so real it actually hurt to watch?

Some romance scenes are so well done that they feel too real.

For me it’s the breakup scene in “The Notebook” or that quiet moment in “Before Sunset” where they realize how much time they lost. It hurts because you know how fragile relationships can be.

What about you? What’s a romance movie moment that felt painfully real and stayed with you?

No spoilers if possible ❤️

Does anyone else absolutely adore this movie - What happens in Vegas (2008)

I just rewatched this movie first time after 2008. I liked it back then but going in on for this rewatch I had zero expectations cuz I didn’t remember much.

But this film turned out to be soooo good! It was so fun 🤩 Cameron is so gorgeous and Ashton looks handsome they both do their parts so well. Reminds of me of back when movies were really fun, and they had color and brightness, and the visual element wasn’t so jaded. The “what a feeling” scene is sooo good and Cameron in that gold dress 😍

Guys check it out if you haven’t seen this one

I watched off campus and loved it soo much...

Off Campus was such a cliché and corny in the first two episodes. I was groaning and rolling my eyes every five minutes. Then it definitely surprised me as it went on. Like, wdym Garrett didn't share Hannah's story with anyone, or Allie didn't cheat on her boring-ass bf, or Logan didn't fuck up his best friend's relationship because he had a crush on the girl? What in the healthy therapeutic shit was that?

And the best part is they're gonna go ahead with Allie and Dean's love story for the next season, so they don't have to keep Garrett and Hannah's story dramatic just to keep us interested and invested. I love that for the show.

I genuinely believe that once Season 2 is out, it's gonna be an even bigger deal than TSITP, and that can't come soon enough... ughhh....

It feels so weird watching a romance movie with 2 leads and seeing one of them in a different movie with a different name and personality😭😭😭

I just watched To all the boys ive loved before and now moving on to watch Sierra Burgess is a loser and it feels like a crime😭

Romance Movie Recommendations

Hi all! I have recently lost a very close family member and I'm in a sort of a lost mindest and just don't really have a lot in me right now to think or anything. I really love romance movies and I was wondering if anyone had any happy, joyful, silly, etc... recommendations for me. They also don't have to have a huge romantic storyline, I'm just looking for something similar. (I like early 2000s movies a lot but I'm always openen to newer movies.

Thank you

What’s a romance movie scene that always makes you emotional, no matter how many times you’ve seen it?

I was watching a random romance movie yesterday and one scene hit me so hard I almost cried again.

It was that moment when the characters finally understand each other after so much misunderstanding. The relief, the vulnerability… it gets me every time.

What about you? What’s a romance movie scene that always gets you emotional, even on the 10th rewatch?

The reason I loved Voicemails for Isabelle.

Okay yeah, I am pretty late but I just finished watching Voicemails for Isabelle and I absolutely loved it!

I watched this movie with pretty low expectations as the reviews online were mixed. Yes, it was predictable, yes, it was kinda unrealistic and yeah it was not the best romcom I have watched. Despite all of this, I would say it was the best romcom released like since covid. It just gave the old 20s classic rom com vibe that I am a sucker for.

Most movies nowadays have this rich bad boy, mysterious popular boy or something along that line and don't get me wrong it is amazing when it is done right but there is just so much of them and they all literally the same. Maybe that is why this movie stood out to me. It was actually funny, the guy was not a dick at the beginning and slowly become nice to her at the end, it had a proper plot and the all the characters acted out reasonably.

I hope we get more movies like this.
