How did your daily come out?
I’m a little worried I should have used framed artwork over the cupboard, but I thought those ‘flying free’ butterflies could be useful in the future.

I have no musical background, but I can recognize if a song is kpop (usually). So, I strongly believe it’s its own genre of music. In fact, it’s easier for me to distinguish kpop from pop than it is for me to distinguish hip hop from rap or soul from r&b. But it’s difficult for me to pull out its defining characteristics. In fact, I’m wondering whether the Grammys should just have a category for genre-bending music instead of a kpop category. But I, personally don’t like katseye being in the kpop category. So I actually like the language requirement in the Grammy description. But it’s not a good look. But how would you define the genre without including katseye? And gg and bg create such different sounds I even wonder if they belong in the same genre.
I’m hoping this post is focused on the chances of winning and not on the other problems and merits of the new category. Since I’m a Stay, I’m viewing it from the perspective of whether Stray Kids has a higher or lower chance of winning when the new category was added.
I think the chances of winning the big general categories is about the same. Eligibility for these awards have not changed. So, In theory, groups have the same chance of winning. But, in practice, voters may be less likely to vote for kpop since it got its own category this year. On the other hand, the winners of all the genre categories typically get more serious attention than others because they have already proven themselves worthy in their genre. So in my view, it’s probably a wash and the chances of winning the general categories has not changed.
However, under the new categorization, I think the chances of winning best Pop album have significantly decreased. I’m not even sure kpop albums with significant use of an Asian language are still eligible for this award. Those albums may be considered to be in the Asian Pop genre. And the Asian Pop genre offers no award for best album. I hope the Grammys renames the pop album category as the pop and Asian pop album category to make it clear that Asian Pop albums are eligible.
The issue that really twists my mind is whether someone like Stray Kids would have a better chance of winning a Grammy in 1) best group or duet performance in the Pop category where they wouldnt have to compete with any solo performers like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, the Weekend, Jenny, Lisa, JHope, or Jungkook or 2) the Asian Pop category where they don’t have to compete against any Western pop stars, but do have to compete against all the solo Asian pop stars like Jenny, Jungkook, Lisa, and IU. I’m not sure either category is obviously less competitive than the other and it depends on whether the group of individual Asian pop stars or the group of western groups and duets have put on better performances this year. I feel if the Grammys were trying to increase the chances of Asian pop stars winning Grammys, they should have divided the Asian performance award into solo Asian Pop performance and Asian Pop Performance by a Duet or Group so that Asian Pop groups aren’t facing even greater competition than they did last year.
I appreciate anyone who considers it - thanks!
Even though This & That hasn’t been fully released yet, I have some thoughts. Note that last year, Ceremony/karma won all the awards in Korea, but skz submitted Hop/Walking on Water for Grammy consideration (not Ceremony/Karma) even though both were eligible.
five for each category. That’s how they determine the nominees. Let’s stream and buy This& That like crazy so the song and album qualify for Korean awards shows.
What are your thoughts?
The one thing I know is to stream for at least 30 seconds or it doesn’t count. But I don’t know where I should be streaming.
I read recently that billboard will no longer be counting YouTube streams for their first 24 hour and first week counts! Is billboard the main reason we are streaming large numbers in the US? When they say the streaming week in the US runs from Friday to Friday, are they referring to Billboard? So, should we be mostly focusing on streaming on Spotify if we want them to keep their billboard streak? In case it’s true, I have my phone in another room playing a Spotify skz playlist that has Run It interspersed to be every third song and the other songs are skz songs that I love that haven’t gotten enough love, like Changbin’s streetlight. Does anyone know how to track Spotify streams for new releases?
I assume YouTube mv streams are still relevant for its own numbers and for streams that count in Korea. The Korean week runs Monday to Monday, so at least Run It will get 5 days of streaming counted for first week popularity for some Korean music shows. So while I play my Spotify playlist on my phone in another room, I’m streaming on YouTube on my iPad. I am jumping around between the mv and people’s reaction videos as the buffer videos.
Any thoughts on how to be more efficient?
So 6 of 7 of them wore gothic cross necklaces when getting off the plane. Then, during the concert, Changbin wore a white t shirt with a red gothic cross which I think says ‘pal’ going left to right and ‘ace’ going top to bottom - so maybe saying ‘palace.’ The cross is often on armor shown in medieval times. So do you think the comeback will be about medieval times or swords or something like that? And does the okay or eye spoiler fit in or is it 2 different comebacks? I’m still hoping the eye is about the whole group doing a comeback with The Weeknd and his album will also have his unreleased song with an eye in it (I can’t remember the name of the song). What are your thoughts?
Nothing exciting, but I like cottagecore
I don’t understand how to get diamonds from the ads that look like this. Should I click the ‘learn more’ oval before it fills with color, after it fills, or just leave it alone and let the video play without clicking ‘learn more’ oval?
