[TOMT][MOVIE][...1950-1990s] B&W movie about a man, probably doctor, who lifts a very heavy stone, and later performs (twice) an operation at the hips of a patient

I remember watching a black & white movie when i was a kid, i think i watched it before 1995 or even before 1990. The movie was most likely set in the 19th or early 20th centory. It was an artistic TV movie, so not a war movie, not horror, not gangster, not adventures movie. And the action was not in a big city, it was in a village or small town, with a rather european aspect.
Most important clue: I think the main character was some kind of a doctor, a strong man who in one of the scenes lifts slowly a big heavy stone that i think looked like a millstone. The man had a beard and i think long black hair. He lifted the stone just to prove he could, not for any practical reason.
Another scene from the movie it was about a surgery at the hips of a patient, which could have been either the man i was talking about, or a female (friend.. spouse..?). And the surgery had to be done again a second time, because the first time was not successful.
Second important clue: I clearly remember that in the surgery scene the surgeon was hitting a chisel with a hammer, at the hips of the patient, who was later shown laying motionless on a table.
And at some point the main character had a health problem at the head (wound? Operation?) and appeared with the head bandaged and was in pain.
Do you have any idea what this movie could be? I've been searching for years.
