The first rug (pink and red one) was bought at a North Carolina flea market a few years ago. The second came from my mother-in-law. She does have some rugs from her time living in Tehran in the 60s but I’m not sure if this is one of them, it seems newer but she takes very good care of her rugs so who knows.
I got this rug from an antique market in Asheville many years ago and never thought to try and identify it until a friend asked if I knew what the text says. Claude thinks maybe it says, “ya allah” in Dari/persian, and perhaps a name and date in The Islamic calendar. I have always wondered if it used to be red and blue and spent too many years in the sun because I haven’t seen any other rugs in this style with pink and purple hues. Thanks!
