Binding Wheat

Trading off binder duties between between a 1924 John Deere Spoker D and a 1918 Waterloo Boy, we prepared some wheat so we can thresh it at our Labor Day show in West Liberty Ohio.

The binder cuts the wheat and ties the cut wheat into bundles. Those bundles are typically "shocked" or set into groups in the field to dry. This wheat is nearly dry and we have a couple of months before we thresh it, so it went right onto wagons for storage until our event. Over Labor Day weekend we will run it through a threshing machine that separates the wheat from the straw and chaff. The wheat will then be used for feed purposes and the straw will be baled and used for animal bedding or other.
