Hi there. I'm getting into cosplaying and making things, and I need some advice.

I follow someone who really inspired me to try out their technique for using silicone. They use a 3d printed mold and cover it with layers of silicone, before peeling it off to create the prop. They have an Etsy store where they sell a lot of their patterns. I messaged asking if they'd ever consider selling the file for the mold, and the response was essentially: "No, because I sell the finished product for 500 dollars each."

Which is reasonable, especially if that's how they make their living. But I also want to try out their technique, and also, the main appeal of cosplay for me is the DIY attitude. As far as I know, they are the only person doing it this way, or at least the most popular. Over 500k followers. They've never made a tutorial, but I can follow what they're doing in the timelapses enough, and I've made 3d printed molds before. Would that be...unethical to do? The friends I've asked say that I would be copying, and if I can't afford a commission I can't afford one.

Thank you everyone for your advice!

So this is a weird one, because no one else I tell it to understands.

We have a very small kitchen. No one else is "allowed" in the kitchen while my dad is in there. Which would be fine, except he's in there for hours every day making God-knows-what. Usually it's an hour or two in the early morning, and then all afternoon until 6PM or so. Then he sometimes spends a few hours at night in there. He cooks on occasion, but there's never enough food for him to spend hours and hours. I don't even know what he does. I know the sink will fill up a few times with dishes and he'll wash them (loudly and poorly) each time... But when he finally leaves, there's still a whole sink of dishes for me and my mother to do, plus all the ones he put back in the cabinet with food crusted on them.

It's 3PM and I've been waiting 4 hours to be able to go make myself lunch, but he's still in there. I haven't eaten at all yet today.
