Hi! I’m a student at UC Berkeley doing a project on social structures found in VR chat. I was really interested in the formation of “VR families” and was excited to do some interviews and research, but by the time I got on VR it seems trolls have kind of scared a lot of these communities into hiding. It’s a bummer and it’s made researching really difficult.

I’m looking to interview players who have any of the following experiences

- A VR family
- a VR community space that is specific to their needs (age regression/ low stimulation/ neurodivergent friendly version of a common space)
- identities with a neurodivergent title (diagnosis is not required)

I understand that this demographic is incredibly targeted by trolls or griefers so if you need to meet on discord and review my work with Berkeley first or verify my identity I am absolutely willing to do that. The interest of the paper is a continuation and expansion of the work of Dr. Sinclair who was an early advocate for autistic online communities. I’d like to expand this work for more than just autism. The paper is in no way a diagnosis or a gatekeeper of validity for diagnosis and the goal is not to pathologize but rather explore these spaces and dynamics as their own social contexts with their own rules and dynamics.
