139 TNEA Cutoff / 83.31 JEE %ile - OC Category - ₹1.5L All-In Budget. Is Engineering still my best bet for CyberSec?

Hi everyone, I'm currently in a major dilemma and could use some unfiltered advice from seniors and professionals.

My Profile:

12th Board: CBSE (Kendriya Vidyalaya).

TNEA Cutoff: 139/200 (Math: 68, Physics: 68, Chemistry: 74).

J€E Main: 83.31 percentile (Math: 95.9 percentile).

Category: OC (Open Competition / General).

Family Income: \~₹96,000 per year.

The Problem:

I am passionate about Cybersecurity/CSE (I’ve already worked on AI projects using Naive Bayes). However, my TNEA cutoff is low for top-tier government colleges (GCT/CEG). I have been looking at mid-tier colleges through TNEA counseling (like BIT Trichy core branches or UCEs), but I’m worried about the "BPO placement trap" in these institutions.

My Constraints:

Budget: Strictly < ₹1.5 Lakhs per year for everything (Tuition + Hostel + Mess + Misc).

Goal: A "sure shot" path to a core technical career in Cybersecurity, not just a generic degree.

My Questions:

With a 139 cutoff as an OC candidate, am I better off taking a core branch at a University College (like BIT Trichy) and self-studying Cyber, or should I consider a B.Sc. in Cyber Security at a top autonomous college in Coimbatore/Chennai?

Given my high Math percentile (95.9), are there specific merit-cum-need scholarships or "Stream 1" entries I’m missing that would fit my budget?

Are there any specific GFTIs or regional colleges in South India where an 83.31 JEE percentile actually lands a Cyber seat in CSAB rounds within this budget?

If I drop the "Engineering" tag and go for B.Sc. + MCA, will I be gatekept from top product-based security roles?

I don't want to get stuck with an education loan for a college that has draconian rules and poor placements. Any guidance on specific colleges or alternative degrees would be life-saving.
