Sorry to all of you guys
I give up guys. I give up on this fucking champion bro. I tried so hard, to prove to a friend that Yone mid is braindead easy (I was destroyed by him a few times out of lane, and only cause I made a mistake, but I was too arrogant to admit it) only to realise how dumb I was. Genuinely, unless and until you don’t really love this champ, please do not play him for LP gains.
Alright so, I still think that there are certain aspects of him that are easy/mid in difficulty. Last hitting is pretty satisfying and easy on him. He has relatively safe engage and disengage IN LANE (I fucked up hard in teamfights). And mechanically, maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think he is that hard. Like mid difficulty at best. I see him like an easier version of Yasuo.
I feel like what makes him hard, is how weak he feels. Apparently people never got over the fact that the champion isn’t the same guy he was release. If you play him now, his weaknesses are clear as crystal. Starting with his lane phase, I lowkey thought I was playing a second Katarina. I couldn’t feel any dominance in lane, unless they were playing some terrible laning champ.
I have played other melees like Diana, Ekko etc, and to think that I believed Yone was easier is so funny now looking back at it. Coming to teamfights, he is probably one of the worst designed assassins I have played. And I know he is a skirmisher/assassin, but after a really detailed guide by an ex pro on him, I understood that you really shouldn’t be going for those massive team ults, and rather play like assassin 90% of the time.
I’ll give a bit more in depth explanation on why I think he is hard in team fights. I firmly believe that Yone’s ultimate was always meant to be this great 5 man cc, high damage ability. But in solo queue, it rarely happens that someone lines up 5 people properly for you, so that you can get that massive ult. And the guide I was watching, explained how that relegates him to play more like an assassin, who can skirmish even after taking out the carries.
But this is where I believe it gets worse. Almost all assassins have a guaranteed way of reaching the back line, unlike Yone. His q3 and R are so telegraphed, it feels like you are gonna fuck up everytime you teamfight with him. The guide mentioned using fog of war and terrain to make it easier to land those abilities, and it certainly helps, but not nearly enough. In the guide, a key aspect of his teamfighting was to wait for someone to cc any back lines with dashes etc, or they waste them. As you know, that is pretty unreliable in solo q, especially in lower elos.
All in all, I was able to him atleast 65% of my ults in teamfights, but it wasn’t a good experience. Last but not least, the hardest aspect about him: It’s surprisingly very easy to die on him. For a champion to have a relatively safe engage and disengage, I can’t believe how easy it was to die on him. I’ve played immobile mages and immobile melees and never felt this unsafe. You die at times where you least expect it lol.
One last message to anyone who thinks this champ is braindead, and wants to play him to climb fast: Please don’t. He is a hard champion. Not hard because he doesn’t have a riven like kit (He doesn’t), but he is hard because he is purposely kept weak weak. Only play him if you love him, and are going to be an OTP. His low winrates across all ranks should be a good indicator of what you are dealing with.
And again sorry yall, I gained a lot of respect for this champ!
