Miranda Protesters

Just wanted to give a shout out to the folks arranging this and who were out there today. We weren’t able to make it but drove past. Appreciate all the animal lovers and the people standing up for the critters of Humboldt. All living organisms deserve to be free and happy, it feels really good to live around so many people who feel the same way.

Protesting can be thankless work, so just wanted to make sure someone said, ‘Thank you’.

Thrifting & Upcycling

We just moved to the area and the move was a bit rough for our senior cats. I’m working on setting up some enrichment to help them feel more comfortable to spread out in the new place but funds are tight.

Any recommendations for where to look for cat trees, like sitting/ reading chairs, day bed/ toddler bed, wall shelves, and a lamp/ plug in ceiling light?

Give me your best thrift stores, places to find info on garage sales, best trade/ exchange meet ups, etc.

I’m currently disabled and can’t drive by myself so bonus points if it’s in Eureka for accessibility but further can be an option.

Thanks!

Incense Reccomendation

I’m looking for recommendations on anywhere local to buy incense from. Bonus points if made locally and/or have sandalwood options!

(I tend to prefer cones.)

Trans Community

My partner and I moved up to Humboldt a couple months ago from the Central Valley, our main factor was escaping to somewhere more friendly to trans and queer people.

It’s all pretty activating for me still but long story short, really significant and escalatory discrimination over the last 1.5yrs, commonly related to our queer relationship or more often my gender (NB) or around pronouns.

While I have had nothing but neutral to fantastic interactions here, i’m still just really having a hard time settling in. I’m looking to connect with others in decolonized / intersectional spaces to work on building local community.

Are there any activities or spaces you’d recommend showing up for around Eureka/ Arcata to build local community? Another friend fled up here too and several others are making their transition (all trans) up here too for similar reasons.

I would love to build enough community to start hosting a weekly creative night/ potluck again.

Don’t wait to care until it affects you.

A violation of anyone’s rights is a violation of your rights. If altruism isn’t enough, protect your community’s privacy for your own protection.
