Panicking about a flight - does checking in early + having a paid assigned seat protect me from denied boarding?
I’m flying Vueling BCN to Paris Orly on friday and I have to be in Orly that day as I willl have a 22h long flyight that exact day after arriving.
I’m worried that the flight may be overbooked, as I received an email from Vueling offering me €30 + a fare difference waiver if I voluntarily switch to an earlier flight, and they even wrote that not everyone was sent this offer.
I have already checked in and received my boarding pass with a specific assigned seat. I checked in on Tuesday afternoon.I have never been in this situation, so I am kinda worried:
- When exactly do they decide who will be denied boarding if the flight is actually overbooked? Do they already know before boarding starts which passengers they would have to deny, based on the passenger list/check-in status? Or can this only be determined at the gate when they see who actually shows up?
- Did I get that email because I might be one of those people? I only bought my ticket over the weekend, does that matter?
- Would it be safer to voluntarily switch to the earlier flight offered?
Thanks! 🙏
