PC powers on but no display (VGA/POST issue) – possible motherboard failure? Need advice.

Hi everyone,

I’m dealing with a persistent PC issue and I’m running out of ideas. I’m hoping someone here can help me diagnose it or point me in the right direction.

Specs:

  • Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow
  • Motherboard: ASUS Z690-A (DDR4)
  • CPU: Intel i5-13600K
  • GPU: RTX 4070 Ti (Gigabyte Aero 12GB)
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR4
  • Cooler: DeepCool AK620
  • Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 500GB (M.2)
  • Storage: Samsung 870 EVO 2TB
  • PSU: Corsair RMx 850W

Problem:

The PC powers on normally (fans spinning, RGB working), but there is no display output.

  • On startup, the CPU debug LED briefly turns on (red)
  • The VGA white light remains on and shortly after the green BOOT light turns on and remains on
  • The system stays powered on, but there is no display output
  • Tested both GPU HDMI and motherboard HDMI outputs
  • GPU completely removed > no change
  • RAM tested in different slots (A2/B2) and with single sticks > no change
  • CMOS battery removed and BIOS reset → no change
  • All cables reseated and checked

The system does not reboot loop; it just stays on with no display and seems to fail POST.

What I have already ruled out:

  • GPU failure (same issue even with GPU removed)
  • RAM failure (tested multiple sticks and slots)
  • Monitor/HDMI cable issues
  • BIOS settings (CMOS reset performed)
  • Loose connections

Question:

Based on these symptoms, I suspect either a motherboard failure or possibly a CPU memory controller issue.

Has anyone experienced similar behavior on a Z690 platform?

If it is the motherboard, what would be a good replacement option for an i5-13600K with DDR4 RAM?

I’m looking for something stable and reliable, not overkill, standard ATX form factor. Preferably a white coloured model.

If anybody can give any suggestion, I would really appreciate it 🙏.
