My kids have an RK 61 downstairs that has had a drink spilled on it, all is well except for the period key. We want to try to fix this ourselves and diagnose what’s going on as a learning experience and I would love any help.

I’ve replaced the switch itself with a new brown switch and it didn’t solve the problem. I’ve removed the board and tested both both sides of the purple switch receptacle and found its functioning the same as the other switches, we put a jumper across the pins inside the receptacle, and we’re not able to close it to type the period key.

Everywhere we test appears the same as every other switch, but it’s not sending a signal back to the computer. I would be really interested in hearing if there’s any other areas we can test or if there’s possible damage between that key and where it connects back to the board.

Again the keyboard suffered no physical damage and the rest of the keys work perfectly, and a new switch doesn’t fix the problem.

Thanks so much for your help!

So I’m working on a really simple drawing robot I got the idea from issue 55 of maker space making a plotter with two stepper motors and a servo to lift the pen.

I found that I couldn’t get it to work with the raspberry pi after a long time of trying so switched to Arduino Uno R3 - everything was working as expected I had both stepper motors and the servo connected to a single 5 V pin on the Arduino and the ground connected directly to the Arduino as well - powering the whole thing over USB from my computer.

It worked well for a while and then when I was testing servo height, repeatedly raising the servo and lowering to its threshold, suddenly the Arduino wouldn’t communicate with computer anymore, it had kind of hung a few times and I just restarted it and got it to work again and then suddenly it wouldn’t communicate with the computer over GRBL.

Claude reckons it’s completely fried - I had no idea you could potentially fry it like that.
Is there anything I can test to tell exactly what happened or is this a known problem?
