Inspired by the u/Sheeranisking series of the Alternate Universe Monkees and Beatles swap
So l'll be doing the same for both bands.
TIME IN TOTAL/LENGTH: 44:00

This album was recorded due to the end of The Beatles TV Show and wanting to destroy the Manufactured Beatles image which had plagued the band since the beginning, after having the album and film released to their audiences with a strange ad campaign, with a wannabe Andy Warhol simply standing in front of the camera. The film came about when the Beatles smoked weed and did drugs with Jack Nicholson they made notes and after that one session the film was completed. It was released to strange fanfare as most fans were too young to even watch the movie. Now it is considered a great piece of cinema. I was released on December 1st 1968.

In early 1962, Peter Tork leaves Connecticut after immersing himself in the American folk revival. Hearing stories of London’s coffee houses and thriving club circuit, he sails to England carrying only a guitar, a banjo and a suitcase. Before long he’s earning a reputation as a talented bassist and multi-instrumentalist, regularly sitting in with local beat groups around Soho.

Mike Nesmith arrives from Texas later that year. With dozens of original songs in his notebook, he hopes British audiences will appreciate his blend of country, rock and rhythm & blues. During the day he works odd jobs; at night he performs in London clubs, slowly building a following.

Former child actor Micky Dolenz decides to leave Hollywood behind in search of a genuine music career. Arriving in England during the summer of 1962, he quickly becomes known for his boundless energy and powerful singing voice. Although still learning the drums, he impresses audiences as an enthusiastic guitarist and frontman.

Already an experienced stage performer, Davy Jones has begun making a name for himself in London’s theatre scene. However, he dreams of singing with a modern beat group rather than remaining in musical theatre. He spends every spare evening visiting clubs in search of the right musicians.

One rainy evening in January 1963, the four young musicians all find themselves at an open jam session in the basement of a Soho club.
Peter is filling in on bass.
Mike is trying out a new song he’d written.
Micky jumps on stage after another guitarist fails to arrive.

Davy, fresh from a theatre performance, joins them for one final number before closing time.
The chemistry is immediate. Instead of sounding like strangers, the four lock together effortlessly, blending American rock ‘n’ roll, folk music and British beat into something fresh and exciting.
The club owner offers them a weekly residency on the spot.
After tossing around several names, they settle on The Monkees—a playful name they hope people will remember.

Word spreads quickly through London’s music industry about the energetic new group with four strong singers and musicians.
After several packed club performances, Parlophone Records signs them in the spring of 1963. Producer George Martin is impressed by their natural harmonies and relaxed humour, encouraging them to keep the spontaneous feel of their live performances rather than polishing away their personality.

Recording begins at EMI Studios during the summer of 1963.
Most of the album is recorded quickly, capturing the excitement of the band’s club performances. Mike contributes several original songs, Peter brings folk influences, Micky supplies driving rock vocals, and Davy adds polished pop melodies.
The album includes energetic rockers, soulful ballads and harmony-driven originals, showcasing all four members equally.
Released in September 1963, Take a Giant Step becomes an unexpected success. Critics praise its freshness, while audiences embrace the band’s easy-going charm and distinctive blend of American and British musical styles.
Within weeks, the Monkees are appearing on television, touring the country and performing to increasingly enthusiastic crowds.

By the autumn of 1963, newspapers are referring to the growing excitement surrounding the band as “Monkeemania.”
Fans queue outside theatres for hours hoping to catch a glimpse of the group. Their matching suits, distinctive hairstyles and witty interviews make them favourites with both teenagers and television producers.
Despite their sudden fame, the four remain close friends, often writing songs together after concerts or entertaining studio staff between recording sessions.
