Advice on moving to Durham

Hello!

I’m from County Durham (not the city though) originally but have lived in London for 14 years and I’m now planning to move back to the North East because I’ve been severely ill for a long time and can no longer afford to be in London and I have some questions. I am an early 30s single male who had a 15+ year career in business and hospitality management but I am now relying on disability benefits.

I’ve visited Durham a lot an adolescent and I’m thinking of moving there - I cannot walk very far so the compactness of the city is a big bonus for me but having a university is another thing I’m looking at as it means the town will be economically active and if I recover, I could jump straight back into work in the tourism sector, but I don’t know if I’m dreaming here.

Is the city social? I imagine there’s things to do because of all the students but I don’t want to be bored as I don’t drive and struggle to take public transport.
Is there a nice community? Do people know each other etc?
Do most people work out of town or is there reliable employment in the town? I’m experienced and I know there’s a lot of tourism
Is it safe? Do I need to buy floodlighting for the house and cameras like I would in Middlesbrough, Darlington etc?

I’m just trying to get a feel for different areas as I can’t really travel to visit due to illness. When I decide to move, I will be selling all my belongings and coming in one trip and without visiting the city or property beforehand so any information is great.

The main things I’m looking for is compact, not completely derelict, some form of social community and culture.

Verso is best boy

I just finished first play though including all side content and all y’all saying Verso is a villain are NUTS.

His decision is inevitable anyway. If Maelle stays in the canvas, she will die, the canvas will be erased regardless. It’s made very clear the painters can’t stay inside the canvas without eventually dying and Renoir would absolutely erase that canvas if Maelle died in it.

‘But he is a sneaky little liar!’

And what? Verso is forced to be immortal, watched his sister be mind controlled (and aware of it herself) and kill herself, watched another sister ask to be killed in front of him while he’s not allowed to die. All while knowing the ‘gods’ fighting over ‘him’ are dying because of it. This poor man is forced to be alive, psychologically (and physically, thanks Julie) tortured, unable to be his own person, knowing the entire world will end anyway and that none of it is real.

It’s also made clear that PVerso is not even similar to real Verso. If they didn’t have the same appearance nobody would even conflate the two, but he can’t even be who he wants to be because of the painters forcing that face on him.

The Painted Boy aka Verso’s soul fragment is clear about how he’s tired of what’s being asked of it, too.

“I wish she would understand…just what it means for me to paint…” and very clear of a child being coaxed into doing something they don’t want to but have been told is for their good “Maybe I should never stop…maybe i should continue forever…Unless, no…maybe I should never stop”

There’s also zero joy in his choice. He is very clearly not happy about it at the end. He just knows it is what had to be done.

Painters are 100% villains to me because if they got a grip then the world wouldn’t need to be erased. Aline’s destructive grief is ruining the world, Clea treats the inhabitants as puppets, Renoir wants to massacre everyone, and Alicia eventually forces Verso to be a living puppet like Painted Clea. Their grief becomes an entire civilisations problem. I would end the world, too.

Tl;dr: The world will die with or without PVerso ripping the bandaid off and he deserves to not be forced into literal enslavement to placate emotionally immature gods.

Sciel is an absolute unit?

Sorry it’s my first time playing but whenever I saw let’s play style videos nobody is ever using Sciel and I wondered why.

I’m in the end of act 2 and she is my reigning champion. She solos half the bosses and I don’t even bother to revive anyone else if they die half the time.

I kicked Maelle off my team to have her and Monoco just absolutely wailing on every single enemy

She’s a beast and I love her play style. No idea why I never saw more people play her

Does anybody else just…hate portal zones?

I did sojourner of harandar 2 weeks after launch and never went back. Same for voidspire but at least there’s more going on there with PvP zones.

In TWW they designed it so well that everyone could fly to every available zone on launch and I remember flying from dornogal to any dungeon each time because it was so fun and easy. Even being able to take a flight path when I want to go somewhere and piss at the same time. Even in dragon flight you could just facedive into the emerald dream.

It’s just not fun having to find constant portals to try to go to 2/4 of the new zones and being unable to flight path there. It feels like we have 2 zones most of the time. Nothing feels connected and I wish they’d just put a big tunnel to harandar or revamped plaguelands instead so I could have fun flying in circles around the zones.
