Câline the wonderful hyrax from DAKTARI spends much of her day in trees and rocks when not around the humans. That doesn’t mean that she won’t stop to look if she sees you, though!

Câline the hyrax had pups several years ago and those hyraxes live in the rocks just beyond DAKTARI today along with children of their own. None of them are anywhere near as friendly as Caline is but this is a story about how they got there.

Câline tried drinking from this cup so jessie held it in place for her. Unfortunately, hyraxes don’t drink water very often in nature and caline has a lot of trouble.

I wonder whether she’s doing this because she saw us drinking water at the table and wanted to join in, bc she was raised with dogs, or if she’s just really bad at drinking. video shared on my youtube, but tell me if you want me to share the longer clip!

Calîne the rock hyrax / Dassie sticking out her tongue to detect chemicals and pheromones in the air.

Bush hyraxes are known for their loud screams but rock hyraxes spend more of their days just sticking their tongues out like this.
