This subreddit is under new management

As many of you know, a former moderator here was unfairly banning members often simply for expressing disagreement with the company's direction and the language used was not professional in the least.

If you were previously banned under those circumstances, please reach out via modmail, and we will review your ban!

[MOD POST] Subreddit Rules: Because Apparently, We Need a Reminder

Hello friends, u/IAmPeteHinesAMA here.

It seems like the subreddit has drifted into a state of "Cold War" lately, where a vocal group of users is escalating toxicity and actively trying to weaponize a previous meta post regarding community standards. We want to be absolutely clear: the post made by u/CanaDan does not give anyone a bulletproof vest to shield themselves from criticism when they make a poor or low-effort argument.

When that meta post was originally published, it was written during a time of severe turmoil behind the scenes to address specific, serious rule violations. It was meant to reiterate the core boundaries this sub has always maintained: zero tolerance for identity-based hate, harassment, and targeted flaming.

A fellow fan telling you that you have a bad baseball take is not harassment. A community member downvoting an unpopular opinion is not gatekeeping. Civility goes both ways. When you choose to put a comment out into a public forum, you are inviting public discussion and that means people are entirely within their rights to disagree with your logic or tone.

A call for civility is a demand to stop personal attacks; it is not a shield to protect bad-faith arguments from pushback.

If you truly believe a user is breaking the rules established for this subreddit, the correct avenue is to use the report and block buttons. Even better: just don't respond to that user. There is a reason moderators are here to ensure that standards are upheld and discussions stay on topic.

Going forward, the mod team will be taking a much more proactive stance when it comes to moderation decisions. If you are a user who only shows up to flame others for not sharing your misery and toxicity, you are far more likely to be issued a ban. We keep track of repeat offenders, and we know exactly who they are. The era of constant flaming and toxic misery is coming to an end.

Participating in the Game Day threads is a privilege, not a right. If you disagree with this standard, you are always welcome to head over to the r/baseball or r/mlb subreddits and comment there instead.

TL;DR: Don't be a dickhead.

Let's Talk About "Phantom IL" Stints

It seems like a lot of people right now think that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is going to be placed on the Injured List (IL) for "phantom" reasons just to give him a break or manipulate the roster.

Let's look at how the IL actually works under current MLB rules:

  • Medical Evaluation: When a player reports an injury or ailment, the club's medical team must conduct physical exams and official diagnostics (e.g., MRIs, X-rays).
  • Formal Certification: If the injury renders the player unable to perform on the field, the team must submit a Standard Form of Diagnosis to the MLB Commissioner's Office. This form requires a specific diagnosis, medical evidence, and an estimated recovery timeline.
  • Roster Status Change: Only after submitting that official documentation can the front office move the player to a list (7-day, 10-day, 15-day, or 60-day IL) to clear an active roster spot.
  • Strict League Review: The MLB Medical Director reviews every single submission. If the league suspects a team is faking or exaggerating an injury to manipulate their roster, they will launch a full forensic investigation.

The consequences for faking an injury are incredibly severe. For example, former Mets GM Billy Eppler resigned and was placed on the MLB ineligible list after an investigation revealed the improper use of "phantom" injured lists

While "phantom IL" stints might have been an open secret in baseball's past, increased league scrutiny has essentially killed the practice. Teams simply aren't willing to risk massive fines, lost draft picks, and front-office bans over it.

TL;DR: A Vladdy "phantom IL" stint is not happening. Unless he is legitimately, medically diagnosed with an injury, he stays on the active roster.

[Matheson] John Schneider on Davis Schneider coming back strong from his demotion to AAA: "... He’s attacked it the right way. I’m happy for him. A lot of guys will put their tails between their legs and say, ‘This sucks’. That’s not him. That’s not the way he’s built.” #BlueJays

[Matheson] Addison Barger has been hitting off the machine and throwing out to 150 feet, so the #BlueJays hope he can begin a rehab assignment soon. Barger's absence hasn't been talked about enough. Major piece missing. Big source of secondary power in a time Vladdy isn't providing it.

[Mod Post] Let’s talk about Rule 6, our reputation, and today's game.

Look, let’s be completely real for a second: this afternoon, 9 users were banned across both our sub and r/orioles.

Our regular crew here knows the deal, but for the casuals floating in when things get heated: Rule 6 isn't just arbitrary red tape.

It’s about the reputation of this community. Nobody wants our sub to be known as the toxic swamp of the league.

To put it plainly, all 29 other MLB team subreddits have this exact same rule for a reason. And if anyone thinks they can just jump over to an opponent's thread to talk trash, raid, or harass people and then run back here to hide, that’s not how this works. The mod teams across all 30 MLB subs have open lines of communication. We talk to each other, we coordinate, and if you raid another team's home turf, you will be banned there, and you will be banned here.

While the series against the O's is officially in the books, we move on to face the Phillies tomorrow. Look, we all know there isn’t some massive, heated divisional rivalry between us and Philly like there is with the rest of the AL East. We want these upcoming game threads to be a fun, relaxed space to just watch some baseball.

But to the casuals who might think a non-rivalry series means the rules don't apply: let this be your reminder.

Going into another team’s subreddit to stir up drama, leave snarky comments, or poke the bear is never going to be met with open arms. Their community doesn't want you there, their mods will flag it instantly, and you’ll find yourself locked out of our sub before the next inning even starts.

Let's keep our business in our own house, enjoy the games, and treat the Phillies threads with some basic respect.

[Matheson] John Schneider on Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who’s out of the lineup again today after being hit on his right elbow Sunday: “He hit today. He’s a little better. He’s still pretty sore when he’s extending, so we’ll see how he is as the day goes and into tomorrow.” #BlueJays

New user flairs

Hello everyone! Over the last few days, I have been busy making brand new user flairs for the 2026 season. We want to make sure the community is fully equipped to celebrate the current roster and all the new storylines unfolding this year.

So far, we have added brand new flair options for:
• Kazuma Okamoto
• Trey Yesavage
• Lenyn Sosa * Andrés Giménez
...and so on!

We've also added fresh nicknames and updates for the rest of the core roster, including Vladdy, Kirk, Cease, Gausman, Varsho, and our bullpen anchors like Louis Varland.

How to set your flair:
• On Mobile: Tap the three dots (...) in the top right corner of the subreddit homepage and select "Change user flair."
• On Desktop: Look at the right-hand sidebar under "About Community" and click the pencil icon next to "User Flair Preview."
