Be very careful taking any position here.
Women, you will paid like dog crap compared to the men.
The management team; Phil Cook and Joshua Daniels, will come for you if you show any talent. My numbers in my department were the highest they’ve ever been. But I was LIED about. And the worst part, store director…. Brandon Hotfelt brushed it off. When I wrote a letter to corporate I was scolded like a child. My job was constantly threatened by this lie. Phil and his “friend” Laney Moyer will spread rumors and make you look awful. Be very very careful.

Any questions please reach out.

Raise refusal into receiving a <$0.50 raise???

For prior context, I live in IL so minimum wage is $16/hr. I have worked with HyVee for 7 years, 6 years at one store and just started at this new store a little over a year ago. At my last store I made $17/hr after fighting tooth and nail for a raise as I was never given a merit or conversion raise ever in my time with the company across all positions I've worked (AOL, meat department, nightstock).

When I started with this new store, the then-HR told me it would be "impossible" to give me $17/hr despite that being my last rate at the other store in town. My car broke down at the old store and it took a few months to get a new car, so I had ultimately given up my position and took a break to be with my son during that period of unemployment and explained this to her when she asked. I told her I was not willing to go below $16.50. Some life circumstances happened and I had to accept this job at $16/hr but was promised by HR that I would be given a merit raise in a year, which at the time was what I had to come to accept because my only other option was to be unemployed.

Flash forward to my 6 month review, then-manager gave me beyond perfect remarks, expressed he'd love to give me a raise but couldn't which I said was fine and I know how the process works. He got fired not long after for unrelated reasons.

Flash forward another 6 months at my year review, now-manager gives me even better remarks and says he is really pushing for me to get a raise because I more than deserve it. I said thank you, that's all I ask for is a raise. I never received the raise. We have been rotating new employees like crazy, we can't seem to keep anybody in nightstock. About a month ago, one of the new employees asks me about my pay, I tell him I make $16/hr and everyone around us is shocked. He started less than a month before this conversation took place and he tells me he makes $16.50. At this point I am beyond angry because the first HR told me that it was "impossible" to be above $16/hr. I explain this to my manager, I plead with him to help me out because I don't know who our HR is anymore (we also rotate upper management like crazy, it's very dramatic over here). He tells me he will try, and that he's never seen a raise less than $0.50 so hopefully it'll be that or more.

Flash forward to now today - I am printing payslips to try and get welfare because none of my other job applications are working out and this store is becoming an issue, and I see that 2 days ago I got a conversion raise. The raise in question? $0.48. I am still the least-paid employee on our nightstock team, most likely the entire store, and I now make $0.02 less than any new employee that starts at this store in any position in any department.

Besides getting a new job ASAP, literally what can I do? HR works from home and ignores any communication. Has anyone had an issue like this? I feel like I'm going crazy trying to navigate this because my managers, HR and store director are all unhelpful and act like it is something that is out of their hands.

Lawsuit

I'm a market grill department manager my boss the food service director has been very inappropriate for the last few years. She drunk texts me all hours of the night about 2 or 3 times a month for years. She will say things like I'm fired, I'm a shitty employee, I have mental problems and she understands because she has the same problems so she does the things she does to help me. She will say nobody likes me, I'm never in the department... Anyhow you get the point. I've tried to fix the issues by talking to the perishable manager, the manager of store opps, the HR manager and even the store director, i should point out 3 perishable managers and two store directors (over the years we have gotten new ones so I tried again) and I've gotten nowhere.... Nothing was done at all. Again I'd like to point out I have all this in text and I've even printed it all out, it took about 200 sheets of paper. I have tried to reach out to an attorney but they all seemed uninterested. Any advice would be amazing I feel like I 100 percent have a lawsuit but apparently haven't contacted the right attorney. Any advice on what to do or who to contact would be welcomed.

Hyvee Barcodes?!

Has anybody shopped a hyvee order recently and had the cashier refuse to scan the barcode for you? Today a cashier said he didn't need to scan it because it didn't do anything, and it actually messed up the store's own system. I asked him to please just scan it anyway, and he pretended to scan it. It didn't make a sound, so I said I could tell it didn't scan, and he finally actually scanned it. Wtf is that about?!

Aisles Online - Reccomend?

Hi everyone! I currently work at the Starbucks inside of Hyvee and it's really been kicking my ass and I am a bit tired of working in food service - or maybe even looking for some extra hours.

Would you reccomend a job being an online shopper? What are your hours usually like? Do you guys end up having to do jobs that aren't your job - like restocking the store, doing registers, etc? How much do you get paid at your store?

Also, can you be an online shopper if youre under 21? I only ask because I've been our online shoppers in the wine + spirit area so I'm assuming you can order alcohol.

I'm just wondering because if I can get paid to fill carts, do some stocking of that aisles online area, fill up people's cars, and do other like upkeep tasks - that would be pretty awesome in my opinion

Is this normal for Hyvee

Do other stores have all these problems too.

I haven’t been with Hyvee for long but my manager promoted while directer was on vacation by himself. They told him he might get the promotion later on but it wasn’t absolutely decided but he didn’t want to wait so he moved everything into an office and introduced himself to everyone as the manager had a full staff meeting about it and everyone came In on there day off and made it hard for the directer to say no when he came back. The directer let him keep it. Then he told a guy he was fired and the rumor was he doesn’t have firing power but the guy stayed fired. He finds ways to make him look busy but when an actual problem comes up he disappears so other people have to figure it out.

My whole team wants to quit or go to other departments cause this manager is so bad but I’ve been hearing bad stuff from other departments.

The manager before him was well liked but also didn’t work his hours he’s paid for. He would come in on the directers days off to see if everything was fine and leave. He’s training to be a directer so he’s not there as much and he moved to another department.

I asked about going to cashier but don’t know if it’s a good idea cause I hear alot about those managers who run it. They say what you want to hear but don’t do it and no accountability with anyone and there in training to be directers. Those guys ride the asses of the managers below and the below seem burned out as hell and I heard there hourly so they have alot of pressure to do alot in a litte amount a time. One of them is salary but still takes his breaks everyday and eats then leaves to get his girlfriend for work and doesn’t make up the hours. Either leaves early or right on time. The other one also didn’t work all his hours before getting into a training program for directors. Is all this normal at other stores or is this an exception cause this is crazy and might want to transfer if it’s not normal. I inow the managers who work their salary hours are mad cause they pick up there slack too.

How are Instacart audits done at your store?

Aisles Online employee here. I was just wondering how the instacart process was at other stores. Typically at ours it’s the runner doing the majority of the audit, but honestly it’s terrible. They come to our room and the runner has to bag it up and take it out to their car as well without any help from the shopper.

I ran the other day and because they want us to check audits and substitutes, I’m required to do that while having to take customers orders out and it’s such an inconvenience and time consuming plus I’m not able to get a break. It’d be nice if we had someone there just for audits but management don’t care about giving enough hours for that so they’ll place all the stress on the few people there.

pto question

i recently noticed that i have stopped accumulating paid time off and only am earning Nebraska Sick Leave.

i'm a full time (40 hour work week) employee and when i look back at my paystubs i have stopped earning time off since late June. i'm not sure if there is a cap on how much PTO you can earn in a year but i think it's weird because i'm not exactly hoarding my hours but i'm not sure if i have missed a memo or somewhere.

is there a cap on this? does my PTO and my nebraska sick leave work together to make one big amount of time off? i don't really use my nebraska sick leave because i don't ever call in sick and i'd rather not get audited for using it for vacation.

Is there still a bonus if you move to Minnesota to be a department manager? I know it’s hard to find managers in Minnesota/ Wisconsin didn’t know if it was a thing or not still.

They don’t learn - smelling like a lawsuit

Pure transparency , just what I was told, but sounds believable and from a source on the know .
So I have friends in a small town South of Iowa City . Their new Director was my boss years ago in QC , totally clueless and personality of a badger (my opinion ) , she was stepped out of her role here when they went to Districts . So apparently she terms a 40 year employee this week for not doing his job . The word is she replaced this guys position while he was on leave , had demoted him twice and has now termed him for not doing his latest job . All since January . Replaced him from his management position with a failed Produce manager half his age who she knew from another store . Crazy part is she did the same crap up here with a dept head and got in trouble for it .What is super comical is apparently
It’s the HR manager at the store that is going around telling god and everybody the inner workings at this store my buddy says her mouth never stops and everyone was shocked she was put in a position that requires confidentiality . Shockingly he also believes the new OPs and HR are hitting it . And the best part is apparently the employee who got fired is the brother of a long term Store Director who I worked for in the Burg . He was TOUGH, but good , and knew the system . I know he was running multiple stores in DM , I think he’s retired now . Anyway probably not super wise to age discriminate and replace the job of someone on leave whose brother was a long term director and knows what you can and can’t do … if even a portion of this is factual how does this lady get another chance . She was awful in the QC and apparently still is .

PSA Ailes Online

I worked as a personal shopper for three years, now I work as the curbie who brings out groceries to the car at a different grocery chain.

At Hyvee;

The person who brought out your order did not shop it. The curbies get paid more than the shoppers even though their job is significantly easier, and they never share tips with shoppers.

It’s hot outside or raining I get it but you should know that when you go tip them $20 and they run inside to brag about it. They did 10% of the work in putting that order together. Shoppers get the items, text the customer, answer in store questions, bag the groceries, stack the totes. All the curbies do is put the totes on a cart and bring them out and organize the empty bins, fetch more dry ice, and throw stuff away, that is literally it.

I will say they’re lifting heavy things. But again I do that too at my current job, plus 40 packs of waters constantly that I have to pick up to put on the moving cart then take off to put in the car, and I get paid less than the shoppers which is how it should be! It’s also Texas, it’s hotter than where I was for Hyvee.

This is what happens when corporations pretend to know what our jobs are worth. If they studied my position at all they would understand I was walking 10-20k steps every shift, with a little 15 min break, getting paid $2-3 less than the curbies. Meanwhile at HEB another grocery store the shoppers get paid $3.50 more than curbies and the department is so efficient that both positions aren’t too difficult.

Bagging

For the love of God, does Hy-Vee not train their baggers how a bag properly? It’s gotten ridiculous. They want to put every single item in its own bag, which is not only a waste, but it’s paying the butt for me as a customer. There are times I’ve actually taken over the bag because I know they’ll do a crappy job. They don’t seem to care.

I’m sure people say the bags are cheap or they can’t hold up there’s no reason for bread in the bag by itself.

I also tried to group the items together, so they make sense in terms of bagging, but they still don’t seem to get it

And I did this job so I know what goes into it
