Never again

Stopped shopping here about a year ago. Had to go to hyvee last night bc my first choice closed at 5.
Produce - had to throw away 3/4 of my strawberries bc there was a mold clump in the middle. Wasn’t visible when I looked at them. Cut open an organic nectarine and it was bad.
Deli - I asked the Deli person to cut fresh turkey bc I like it shaved rather than thicker slices. I also don’t know how long that pre sliced shit has been in the cooler. It has also been open and closed all day long. When I asked, the deli person gave me a horrible look, audibly sighed, and tells me they’re trying to clean up (even though they were open for another 2 hours). So I caved and got the pre sliced meat that had been in the cooler for who knows how long. Got home and attempted to make a turkey sandwich. The meat was slimy and didn’t smell fresh. Threw it out.
Meat Counter - got 1 marinaded chicken breast. Since the turkey sandwich didn’t work out, decided to cook this. Again, awful. The actual meat was tough and flavorless inside. Yet somehow, the outside where the marinade was, tasted sour. Not sure how garlic butter can taste sour, but it did.
Prices - I don’t think I even need to go into that. Ridiculous. The only true sales were all junk food. A box of cheez-it are $2 but 1 organic apple is $3.

I had to throw out $20 in food that was moldy and/or past its prime. Fuck off HyVee and I hope you keep upping your prices while lowering your quality and fucking close! This is NOT the HyVee I grew up with. Even the employees seem miserable and there actually used to be a smile in every aisle. As an adult, I’ve waited on HyVee founders and CEO’s…HyVee is not hurting for money. Pure greed. I see this corporate greed everywhere and I guess I was naive to think HyVee would stay true to the community.

Fuel points or lack of?

I spent $234.00 today on groceries and only earned 1 cent in fuel points? I’ve noticed less and less points over the last month. I like this store but a lot of the reason I come here is for those points, I might just switch over to Krogers eventually.

Holiday pay?

This is a dumb question but i recently got hired at a Hy-Vee and i was just told that my holiday pay for the 4th and every other holiday was only an extra dollar an hour. I’m just wondering if this is standard around other locations or if it’s just the one I work at.

Seafood department

I might be a little biased but I don’t see the need for a fresh seafood department in the Midwest. I understand frozen seafood but fresh seafood in my store barely sells and goes in the dumpster day after day. Not to mention the health code violations I have seen. The ice machine is covered in a “gel” like mold on the inside. I let management know about this with no real answer besides “we clean it every week”. I have seen the seafood manager and the only other worker in seafood(because the hours are so short they only have two employees) drop salmon, catfish, etc on the ground and pick it back up like it’s nothing. The cod is slimy and smells horrendous. The tilapia is yellow and dry. Our store is pushing for us to do “anything for a customer” but when I try to help and provide real criticism for the cleanliness of that specific department it’s heard under deaf ears. Anyone else having this problem?

Does Hy-Vee do background checks?

Went to my local Hy-Vee and to my surprise I see a woman working in customer service who a few years ago was charged for defrauding small business owners for over $800,000 dollars in multiple states.

What happened to the Hy-Vee India engineering team on June 23

I'm writing this as someone who was part of the Hy-Vee India engineering team. Since there has been very little public discussion about what happened, I wanted to share our experience.

On the night of June 23, around 150 employees from the India engineering team received an unexpected invitation to an ad hoc Microsoft Teams meeting scheduled for 9:00 PM.

There had been no warning, no indication that our jobs were at risk, and no communication suggesting that the India operation was about to shut down. Many of us had spent the day working as usual, planning future releases, fixing bugs, and attending regular meetings.

When the meeting began, our VP of India read a short prepared statement informing us that Hy-Vee was ceasing its India engineering operations with immediate effect. CTO was also present on the call. The meeting lasted only a couple of minutes, there was no discussion, and employees were not given an opportunity to ask questions.

Within minutes of the call ending, our access to Microsoft Teams, GitHub, email, VPN, and every other company system was revoked.

Our company laptops were also remotely wiped before many of us had a chance to retrieve personal documents, photos, certificates, and other files stored on them. There was no window provided to back up personal data.

Over nearly two years, I worked as a Full Stack Developer alongside an incredibly talented team. Like many of my colleagues, I worked late nights, met tight deadlines, and genuinely believed we were helping build something for the long term.

Many of us were looking forward to our annual appraisal and bonus after spending years contributing to the company. Instead, we found ourselves unemployed overnight.

The financial support offered was limited to approximately 50 days of pay. There was no additional severance package despite the immediate shutdown affecting around 150 employees. Interns who were also impacted had even fewer protections.

What made the experience even more difficult was what happened afterward.

Within a short time, Hy-Vee India's LinkedIn page and posts related to the India engineering team were removed. It genuinely felt as though the entire India engineering organization had disappeared overnight. After spending years building products for the company, it was painful to see our team's public presence vanish so quickly.

This post is not about attacking individuals. It is about documenting what many of us experienced that night.

To my former teammates: it was an honor working with you. I have no doubt every one of you will land somewhere great.

And to anyone reading this, remember that behind every headline about "restructuring" or "cost optimization" are real people whose lives can change in a matter of minutes.

We existed. We built products. We gave our best to the company. We simply hoped for a more respectful goodbye than a two-minute Teams call.

Brat sizing

Has anyone else noticed that brats and patties have shrunk to 3oz from 3.75 outs. 20% cut and if you math it out it’s 5.28 a lb at the 99 cent deal. Be careful consumers.

Manager watching cameras live

I’ve been employed at hyvee for six years now and have never experienced something like this. Lately, we’ve had an upper manager sitting in their office watching the front end workers LIVE. This is not a store director, assistant store director, corporate employee, or even a store operations manager. This manager, while watching us live on cameras, will call down to customer service if they see ANYONE standing around, leaning, or simply waiting to be told what to do. They will tell employees to find something to do or to GO HOME if they see this on cameras. Today, this manager called down and I answered. They said “tell that kid to go do something”. I responded “what kid?”, not seeing him behind a display. This manager told me “look behind that display, you’ll see him”, indicating that I was being watched as we spoke.

This manager is very aggressive, rude, and makes insanely tone deaf remarks. They have had many complaints made against them. For me, this has been the final straw. This makes me extremely uncomfortable. I do not think it is okay whatsoever, in the slightest, to be watching employees live as they work and calling down to customer service to tell people what they are doing wrong. This is a step above micromanaging, and puts everybody on edge.

Maybe I’m being sensitive, maybe we should all work under the assumption that we’re being watched live… but something seems… icky about this. None of us are okay with this. Like, how is this manager being a productive employee if they are just sitting in an office for most of the day watching cameras??????

Let me know your thoughts, I’m open to different interpretations and ideas about this.

Ankeny #1 Hy-Vee

Is there anyone that has worked for or currently works at the Ankeny #1, N Ankeny boulevard location that is willing to give me some info?
Trying to see what the store is like and what the culture is like there since there’s a possibility I might be working there soon.

How is the management and store director? is it a good store to work at? is there anything specific reason that made you leave if you previously worked there?

Hope to get a lot of responses. Thanks for reading!

HyVee Pharmacy Automation makes unsolicited calls and asks for personal information.

I keep getting automated calls from the HyVee Pharmacy asking for me and then asking me to verify who I am by entering some personal information. Every anti-crime organization tells you not to respond by answering the query but the lazy programmers at HyVee haven't got the news.

I have no idea why they think they need to do this. I suspect they are pushing for a prescription renewal. They have no problem leaving a voicemail that prescriptions are filled. But they seem to doubt that calling my number necessarily means they are talking to me. While that's actually a good thing that 99% of the financial institutions that send you text authentication codes don't seem to understand, it's probably pretty useless to keep a family member from prying into what medications I'm taking. The confirmation they ask for isn't particularly private among a family.

What they should do is leave a message that says to check online to see what prescription needs to be renewed.

HyVee's prescription search is a different disaster so finding the prescription that's being called about is not a guarantee.

I've submitted the issue with calling and then asking for information before. Even though this is clearly a programming issue, they forwarded it around to stores and pharmacies who are at the mercy of the programmers who don't think through their use cases.
