Orbs finally got his big tank and substrate today!!! Took 3 days to finish 😭
As I've said another posts I am upgrading orbs enclosure He's gone from 100 gallon tank to 120 gallon tank He's getting substrate soon after being on paper towels or newspaper his entire life how do I get him used to it. Do I just stick him in and let him do his thing?
I'm hoping by the end of the night he'll have substrate in his enclosure. I just don't know how well he's going to take it He's never been on anything but paper towels or newspaper.
My buddy got his new tank!! Now I gotta decorate it and figure out substrate
My buddy orbs has already costed me a lot of money the last few days. So I'm trying to go cheap on the decor I have a bunch of hardwood trees in my yard I'm going to boil and bake them to get them ready to go into his enclosure but I was wondering if anyone had natural branches in a 120 gallon tank set up that they would be willing to share pictures with me so I can get a good idea of how to set them up. I will be purchasing some of the decorations like a hiding spot and a little cave but I would like to incorporate as much natural free stuff as I can.
Orb's first trip to the grocery store picture for attention.
Everyday he walks further and further on his leash. Today was his best walking day.
Trying to expand orbs's diet, currently he's eating dubia roaches, for his greens he currently has a mix of turnip, mustard, collared and dill. I do mix in I think they're super worms from PetSmart. I Don't like to buy much from there cuz they're expensive it's cheaper to buy on Amazon and have it shipped to the house. Unfortunately on Amazon all I can find are dubia roaches the super worms and the fly larvae and I do not want fly larvae in my house because they will turn into flies. And it's really hard to tell which larva you're actually getting. Anybody have a link in the United States by the way to other bugs besides dubia roaches that are good for bearded dragons.
I'm well aware I could Google this but I would rather have recommendations from people actually using the product.
Cute picture for attention.
So I've been reading this
https://reptilesandresearch.org/care-guides/bearded-dragon-care-guide
as suggested by some wonderful person here.
I got to the lighting portion of the article and boy is that confusing. If I wanted to provide the best lighting set up, covering all spectrums. Not just the bare minimum, what would that lighting set up look like. Does anyone here do that for their dragon? Would you share a picture and possibly links.
Cute picture of orbs window time on Saturday.
I've been looking at these tanks for orbs. Which would you pick and why? I am leaning towards the 2nd picture because someone said glass sides stress them out. Right now he's in an all glass tank. I like the sides glass because it's easier to see this thermometer
Also side question ceramic bulbs for night time if it's cold Or is there something better? My house air sucks so we have a window unit when we run that it can get cold in here also in the winter my house can get cold so I'll definitely need something on for him night and day.
Sorry for all the posts but I want my buddy to be as happy as possible.
The bumps going across from leg to leg. Normal? Something I should watch?
Orbs and I would like to thank everyone that took the time to try to help us make his life a little better. We are working on a new bigger tank. We are still trying to figure out what the best substrate to use or if we should go with a mat of some kind. I'm excited to be buying him new decor soon. In a few weeks once I get my current balance paid with the vet he'll be going. Lucky for us my dogs vet also sees dragons 💕 vet visit just for a check up and to get advice from her. We are enjoying some outside time.
I want to start this out by saying I never wanted a bearded dragon not because of any reason other than never been interested in lizards.
However life has thrown me a curveball and now I own a bearded dragon that's somewhere between 12 and 16 months old. I have no idea what I'm doing I've been googling everything I can and joining groups like this.
I was trying to be a good big sister and help my brother out of a bad situation. Turns out that wasn't the case unfortunately I learned a lot of nasty things about my brother and I am in massive debt because of him and now have his bearded dragon.
The plan was the dragon would stay here and once he got his own place he would take the dragon with him. However my brother is not a good person when I first encountered his bearded dragon he didn't even have a heat lamp on him. They lived in Ohio so it was cold. They left the poor dude in the house for almost a week with no food no light and no water I don't know how he lived but he did and now he's here.
I've since gotten him a thermostat and one that measures the humidity. He's eating bugs on a regular schedule and has constant access to greens and water although I never see him drink the water. I did see a post about adding an air bubbler and I think I'm going to try that. I do add a little bit of water to his greens just so that I know he's getting some hydration. I give him daily window time I've bought him a leash and a harness so I can take him outside.
My questions are really about substrate and if I should be using it right now he's just on grocery store sales ads and I kind of feel bad I know I need to get him a mat of some kind of just don't know what kind and there's conflicting information on Google.
I would love if you've read this whole thing and you have the time if you can info dump Tell me all the things you wish you knew as a new owner I need help He seems to be doing good but I don't know He's shedding I do know that My dog just ran up my credit card $700 so once I get that paid off he's going to be going to the vet. Unless he needs to go sooner for an emergency.
Please info dump everything you can.
PS I use talk to text to do this I hate texting so very sorry for any typos It was my phone not me.
