I intend to get an Asus Rog X870 Motherboard since it’s in an amazing bundle, but I’ve heard that the wifi chip that it uses (Mediatek) has had issues with Linux in the past. Is that still the case or has it been fixed/updated? I know that I could just buy a seperate wifi adapter too, but I’d like it if the built in wifi would work. I intend to use CachyOS, so hopefully it would be compatible.

After Sony decided to stop supporting discs along with many other problems Playstation has, I’ve decided to move to PC and while I was intending to use Windows 11 on it due to having some familiarity with Windows 10 in the past and intending to use it primarily for gaming, I figured it would be the way to go. However, now that I’ve learned how much Windows 11 seems to spy on the user and the amount of bloatware that it has, I’m thinking of using Linux as the OS for the PC that I intend to build.

The question I have is one that many have had, and is a question that I’m sure I’m repeating, however I just want to be sure that I’m properly able to start using Linux properly. I’ve looked quite a bit into the different distros already and into how Linux works in general and while I have a general idea of some of the best distros, so many people recommend so many different ones that I’d like to ask Linux users about it with my specific situation.

While I am not a beginner at all to PCs and definitely not to technology in general, I have never used Linux before. I am certainly not casual about this, and have done and will continue to do my research as I did just spend the last several hours doing almost nothing but watch videos and look at threads about Linux. I value customization, however I’m mostly going to be using this PC for gaming, so I don’t need an absurd amount of options for the PC itself if it is too difficult or unstable to use. I am more than willing to troubleshoot occasionally for problems that I encounter, but I wouldn’t want to have to do it often with an overly complex system that may be incompatible with some games. This will be a new system, so it should be powerful enough to run high quality games and software as well.

I also have two other questions that I’ve seen some answers to, but would like to make sure about. How difficult is it to change distros if I end up wanting to switch, and as long as I’m not a fool who clicks every link I see, then how easy or difficult is it to get a virus on Linux? To watch out for them or if I do get one, does Linux have any proper Antivirus tools?

I appreciate any responses and sorry that this is long, I just want to make sure that I’m properly giving the information needed to help me with this.

TL;DR: New to Linux but not to tech and am a huge nerd that loves this kind of stuff, so not particularly casual despite being new. Which Distro should I pick?

I intend to build a PC for the first time soon and haven’t used steam much in the past, so I apologize if this is an obvious or stupid question. I’ve been looking through steam at all of the games I’ve never been able to play before on console and I learned about this command. I’m looking to potentially play a few games when I get a PC like FNAF World or Codename Gordon that don’t have steam pages anymore.

Is there anything against steam TOS for running those commands to get these games/games like that on steam even if the store page is gone?

I’m attempting to get all of the achievements in this game and one of the last few that I’m missing is for equipping a legendary item. Do they still show up in the shop? Do we know when another might appear? Also, is there a way to earn Celebrations without having to spend money or grind showbucks? I apologize if these are common questions or if they have obvious answers. I’m somewhat new to this game

I have already played Final Fantasy 7 Remake (as well as its DLC Intermission) as my first Final Fantasy game and thought that it was pretty straightforward and very enjoyable. I’ve been intending to play Rebirth next, however I’ve also learned that apparently many people consider the Remakes to be sequels and am now extremely confused what my next step should be with this series.

Based on the title being “Remake”, the characters being the same, the opening of Remake being essentially an exact remake of the OG game, an extremely similar logo, the shot of Cloud standing at the base of the tower with his sword behind his back etc, I assumed it was a standard Remake that was just a modern version of the original with a different gameplay style.

The thing that I assume is the reason why people think that these are sequels is that the whispers try to adjust fate to the way that it’s “supposed to be” and that characters like Sephiroth and Aerith seem to be able to know more than they should be able to, but does that have to mean that they have knowledge of the events of the OG game? Plenty of stories have characters that can see the future/other realities without it having to be a sequel to that future/reality and Sephiroth and Aerith very clearly have special abilities, so maybe they can just do that.

What I’m trying to say is that I’m not sure where to go with the series next. I don’t know if I should continue with the remake series and maybe play the OG after part 3 concludes or if I should play the OG next despite having already played Remake part 1. On top of that, as much as I’m willing to play the OG, if it’s not necessary, I heavily doubt that for my first experience of the story, it would have the same impact considering how old it is and how aged the technology is. With such old graphics and no voice acting, I just feel like it would be much harder to take it seriously compared to the gorgeous visuals and voice acting of the modern games.

I apologize if this has been asked before, however I’m just trying to have the best experience with such a beloved series that so far, I’ve really enjoyed.

I intend to play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth soon and am wondering when the ideal time would be to play Crisis Core. I have already played Remake + Intermission and already have copies of Rebirth and Crisis Core Reunion, however I have never played the original Final Fantasy VII. I understand that the true ideal way to experience it is to start with the OG and go into Crisis Core later, however I already started the remake series having played Remake (and Intermission) as I assumed that Remake was an exact remake of the full FF7 based on the title and marketing.

With this in mind, what would be the best place to play Crisis Core? Would it still be best to play it after the third Remake entry releases and finishes the main story similar to playing CC after the entire original game? I’m willing to wait for that if it’s ideal as I loved Remake very much. Would it be best after Rebirth? Before Rebirth?

I am also willing to play the OG FF7 eventually despite it being old, however at this point, having already played Remake and Intermission, I’d probably prefer to play the OG after finishing the remakes, unless it’s actually important to play the OG first. While that feels like it would be a very strange flow, (Remake, OG, Rebirth, Part 3) I’d be willing to if it’s necessary. However, I felt like I understood Remake and Intermission perfectly fine without too much knowledge of the OG.

I am about to start my first playthrough of Signalis and would like to know what you all think is the best settings for a first playthrough, particularly for combat accessibility and inventory capacity, but others as well if they’re worth changing from default.

I am quite inexperienced with the survival horror genre, which I know the Survival and Classic settings are meant to be closer to, however I am more than willing to learn if that is best for my enjoyment of my first playthrough and/or is the way the game is intended to be played. I’m also quite into collecting achievements/trophies and from what I know, completing the game with those two settings on earns you one.

I am more than willing to play a second playthrough for the achievement though if it’s best to start with the normal difficulty and/or revised/extended inventory settings on. I’m more than willing to learn this new (for me) system if it’s best and I’m very familiar with hard games if it’s difficult too
