The last day he called her Rory (pt 5)

Picture related. No one knows where he is looking at.

Shortly after the morning events, the last (for Charlie) concert began. The biggest one the band had ever played. People were packed so tightly that even near the stage you could feel the heat radiating from the crowd.

For this legendary performance, everyone in the band was assembled. A long, long concert. As the drummer, Charlie sat in the centre, but even he had a microphone next to him – he had his own, albeit small, vocal part in one of the most powerful tracks in their entire history. Track after track, no breaks. Note after note from everyone on stage, utmost concentration.

Looking at the drum kit, from time to time he realised he could afford to lift his gaze from the sticks to the crowd, to the people, to the band, to her.

The aesthetically perfect features of her body – especially given the outfit she was wearing – were clearly visible. From behind, her waist and the skirt sitting low on her hips moved so enticingly. Her stockings, which matched the colour of her hair perfectly, swaying back and forth.

At one point during the performance, she moved a little closer to the drum kit, turned sideways to the crowd, and leaned back, slightly resting against the bass drum. She made a move to keep her hair from falling onto Charlie's drums and interfering with the sound. And even though her hair touched the stage floor, it's safe to say with 110% accuracy (with 10% margin of error) that no one cared about her hair in this exact moment.

The curves of her body, transitioning from her stomach and ribs to her chest, covered by such a small amount of fabric, were absolutely captivating. Her free arm stretched out straight, and she kicked one leg forward, essentially balancing on her remaining leg and the bass drum. The front garter straps had small golden clasps that, at that moment, under the stage lights, drew the attention of people of refined taste.

"God, it's so good to wear glasses. No one knows where I'm looking at," Charlie thought. And not just once.

It was, in a way, a test for him. And yet, everything comes to an end, whether good or bad.

The performance was over. The official farewell to the crowd, taking care of business... and the afterparty. The biggest one ever.

Everyone was drinking. A lot.

Hemlock had disappeared somewhere. Probably taking "absolutely legal substances" out back. Prophet was in the next room. The others... somewhere nearby. But there was one thing he was looking for - Arora. After he found her, he beckoned her with his finger. By some miracle, they found a secluded spot – a little balcony in the building. Secluded for now; sooner or later people would spread out across every available space.

Charlie had self-control, but while he'd been sitting behind the drums, he'd made up his mind about something, and besides, the alcohol helped a little.

Knowing her nature, he spoke first:

-Rory. There are moments in life when the atmosphere and mood, the decisions and the situation all come together, and things happen that... happen. And it's not advisable to resist them, so I won't. I like you, Rory.

Immediately after these measured, manly and determined words, Charlie took off his glasses, lifted Rory by the chin, and, closing his eyes, kissed her.

As if in response, fireworks burst open in the sky behind them. It felt like too little time had passed, but Charlie still needed to breathe, so he pulled back from her lips.

-I guess this is what people mean when they say 'I wish this moment would last forever.' If that's it, then such an eternity would be more precious to me than anything, - Rory replied with a very soft smile, running her tongue over her lips that Charlie had just touched, and then continued – Let's go get some drinks, and then I'll whisper something in your ear ;) – she said playfully.

Charlie put his glasses back on and followed her. She walked ahead and wanted to get the drinks. She really, really wanted to reciprocate his feelings, with the right words, and at the same time embarrass him by letting him know she'd seen where his eyes had been looking during the performance.

Her eyes spotted a tray that someone had placed in the corner of the nearest room.

"Over there – drinks!" she said, taking his hand and feeling his warm hand in hers. She glanced at him. At him, with a light smile, clearly expectant.

As soon as they got closer, she let go of him, took a step, picked up two full, untouched glasses, and then turned around – only to find that Charlie Disco was dead.

He was just lying there where he'd been standing seconds ago.

The glasses fell from her hands.

-No... this isn't right. This can't be. It's not correct,- she said in denial, staring at her hand, which still seemed to feel the moisture and warmth of his fingers.

Immediately she switched into caretaker mode, but Prophet, who had come at the sound of the glasses breaking, shut her down and began evacuating everyone from the building.

And that is exactly how Charlie Disco died.

Fanfiction by me.

A couple of words: what I did - i tried to fit my story into the game lore, so there won't be any conflicts. But it progressively gets harder and 110% will be harder with major lore updates in game.

Bye for now

A little tip after patch: Windmill

After fresh patch, we now have enhanced windmill.

This ability now is more rewarding, allowing you to pull enemies towards Charlie, and use any other ability or move.

Do note, that interruption works well, but not always - there is a little chance that base attack of NPC will hit from back and stop the windmill.

Example of usage: right before windmill is about to end, use another area ability, like bass-vader. It will finish enemies in one hit, but send them away.

Another good for this situation ability - Dex's guitar. Since electricity goes to nearby enemies, and we stop the windmill without the final hit, which itself sends enemies away, the are all now placed conveniently to be dead. Dead as disco. Huh, funny, isn't it?

Anyway, use windmill more. Goodluck

A little tip after patch: Singularity

After fresh update, singularity won't pull enemies with hit+interruption, it is just small hits now, as well as it won't send them flying. Aerial finisher era ended, but now we have a big opportunity to conveniently use parry when enemies are together and about to attack.

One of uses (Rhytm divine challenge for example) - leave one of sniper dolls alive, and all the knew spawned enemies pull singularity. Sniper doll lands a hit right into parry, and you may strike all of the ones pulled. May also be used with any hit, however a bunch dolls have tendency to bump into another, not getting to charlie, even if standing really close.

Singularity charge until enemy about to hit -> parry+hit.

Cost: 3 rage, a little time.

Another way is to use charged drumstick throw, as now it sends enemy flying, and you may do aerial finisher again.

Singularity charge -> drumstick throw -> finisher on flying enemy.

Cost: 2 rage+finisher token, a little time.

Most damaging one, and also the most expensive in terms of used time and rage - singularity + bass-vader.

Full charge singularity, and then full charge bass-vader. Do note, that time, required for this and rage may be overkill, unless enemies are buffed with +HP.

Ain't no way they has this much cake

Recently i discovered, what the "COSMETIC" function does. Varying from 0 to 100% it adds cake to every female character AND Charlie. Here side by side Charlie and Arora. Now I can't play with both of my hands anymore, maybe 18+ fanfic coming. We'll see about that

Chose

I have such thing:

26B is legendary izanagi daybreaker, which i could get by switching with guarantee. The problem is, after vornado will be added, I'll have squire luno on 18A, and platinum ticket I could use for dlunos on 25A.

Essentially, it is about either vornado+izanagi by catfood and rare tickets, either luno+dlunos by catfood+rare+plat ticket.

The day he called her Rory (pt 4)

Artwork by Hiroasumi.

Charlie had promised Arora that he would tell her everything and sort things out soon, but they had a long tour ahead – a couple of days, moving from place to place, with breaks for sleep and food. The whole Dead as Disco band was busy, Charlie included.

The show – right in the morning they had to be at the venue. Sitting behind the drums, he could sometimes look up and watch her back as she sang and performed energetic, provocative moves for the Starlets (friendly reminder to replay Arora level and look at her in the beginning of first fight. Those moves are really sick).

Given the capabilities of Arora's body, while the rest of the band slept, she could do additional performances together with Hemlock, who downed litres of energy drinks and denied any need for sleep.

Of course, a duet performance didn't take that long. Hemlock and Arora returned to their lodging – a sizeable hotel.

There was still enough time before the last show of the tour; it was still night, and most people were usually asleep at that hour.

-So, everything was f***in' awesome, but I need to drain all the litres out of me so I can pour in a couple more. I'm about to cause a flood in there... - Hemlock said and headed toward the restrooms.

Arora watched him go and then made her way to Charlie's room, entering silently.

Yes, the room could only be opened with the corresponding key card, and the door would make a sound. But was it hard for Arora to connect to the system and simply disable the door? Absolutely easy.

Stepping inside, she saw Charlie in the large bed – only his head and arms were visible from under the blanket, his hair streaming across the pillow in all directions.

He was peacefully snoring, and she sat down on the bedside table and simply looked at his face.

"It was said that people are more beautiful when they sleep. His face is the same as always – expressionless, even boring. Conclusion – this information is false."

That's what Arora thought. She stood up and was about to leave, but Charlie turned over in his sleep, facing her direction.

A couple of minutes later she thought: "...new conclusion – the information is true. Need to gather more data on this phenomenon. Just a few more minutes of recording."

And she sat back down. One minute. Two. Ten. An hour passed; gradually it began to get light, which meant waking time was approaching.

"...I think that's enough. The collected data confirmed that he is more beautiful with a peaceful sleeping expression."

She stood up. But she didn't leave. A small step toward the bed.

Her hair fell onto Charlie's face, and when he breathed out, it moved. With a slight smile, she leaned in and reached out her hand to brush it away from his face.

-Arora, what are you doing,- Charlie asked sleepily, barely opening one eye.

She didn't stop and kept leaning closer.

-Rory. - he asked with a hint of irritation.

She slightly narrowed her eyes playfully, giggled, and still didn't answer. She simply reached out and fixed his hair.

-That's all :)

-Now, can you leave and stop breaking into my room?

-Well, let's see what I can do about that ;)

She left shortly after, with her tails swinging playfully.

Less than 24 hours until Disco is dead.

The day he called her Rory

After one of the parties, Prophet, Charlie, and Hemlock were discussing business plans for the next fiscal year.

"The number of performances shouldn't be too small. Why am I being given so little time?" Hemlock asked.

"If we increase the number of your solo performances even more, it'll hurt the band's image. After a string of failed social interactions, like the yogurt ads, we need to focus on quality," Charlie replied, leaning his head back, staring at the ceiling in thought.

"That's exactly what I'm talking about. Lately, more and more talent has been showing up on DED. If we don't put out a new, explosive, viral track, our position will really become shaky, especially considering how much each band member's whims cost us for inspiration. Charlie alone hasn't spent his salary on anything... special yet," Prophet said, having taken off his jacket and sitting in just a T‑shirt over a table covered in papers.

"For fuck's sake, grab that damned Dex and the Robot by the scruff and make them work too!" Hemlock yelled.

"Dex is already in a flow state 24/7, and Arora can't do everything... 'human enough,' if you'll allow me to put it that way," Prophet said, crumpling another stack of calculation papers.

Prophet continued: "I'm pretty tired. I want a sparring match – let's go have a drink and then head out."

"That'd be 2 against 1? I'd give it a try, but the TOO‑DAMN‑HONEST Prophet wouldn't want that. DISCO, find yourself a partner," Hemlock said, grabbing his guitar and heading to the exit from The Encore.

Prophet didn't have much to gather; he just waved at Styx, who started pouring.

Charlie, meanwhile, was deep in thought.

"Dex... out of the question. The old man's lost in himself, and talking him into anything is a pain. That leaves her. Where could she be..."

Charlie picked up a pair of drumsticks and walked over to Arora's microphone.

It looked like an ordinary mic, except for the circular decoration around it.

Waiting until Styx, acting as referee, and Prophet followed Hemlock out, Charlie spoke quietly: "This mic looks divine. Cosmic, I'd say. Can you hear me?"

No sign of a response came from anywhere.

"Ahem, Rory?..."

"Yes, Charlie. I can hear you. I heard your conversation – I'm currently connected to The Encore's system. I'll be right there."

Her calm voice came through the speakers.

In truth, Charlie was troubled by some heavy feelings. He had a vague sense that something was off. Something was going wrong, but admitting that would mean breaking the harmony within his own band – and without that, standing up against Harmony Corp. would be tough.

Deciding to distract himself, Charlie sat down and started drumming. Nothing specific – just started, and lightly slipped into a flow. Something even began to take shape in his head, but then Arora came out from behind the curtain, picked up the microphone, walked over to Charlie, went around the drum kit, and hugged him from behind around his neck.

"Charlieeee!"

"Eavesdropping, by the way, isn't nice," he noted.

"For rehearsals, I connect to The Encore's power supply, and right nearby is an audio‑video port. How could I not take advantage of it? It's really inspiring to watch you and Dex rehearse at night together, without a single word said for 5 hours straight. And isn't it legitimate for me to watch my boyfriend?" she asked, tilting her head slightly and bringing one hand to her lips in a questioning gesture.

Letting out a breath, Charlie spoke:

"Actually, even though it's still not polite – why do you call me your boyfriend?"

"Well, it's simple – just like you told me: cute names, trust, and now we're meeting alone, and our interests have long overlapped. I've fulfilled all the conditions. Or is something wrong?" she asked with a frown, leaning toward Charlie, who was still sitting behind the drums. (It's worth remembering that of Hemlock, Arora, and Prophet, Charlie is the shortest. So Charlie sitting and Arora standing made for quite a sight.)

Arora leaned down almost 90 degrees to him, and their faces were level.

"The list is much, much longer. For now, I have to say I'm not your boyfriend, and you can't call me that. Later... definitely not today, I might give you the whole list," Charlie said, and thought, "A machine is a machine. The first item would definitely be initiative."

"Alright. Why didn't you give me the full list earlier? And why, without giving it fully, did you start fulfilling its items?" she questioned.

"We need to go. Hemlock and Prophet will turn on the music soon," Charlie abruptly changed the subject. This conversation was really weighing on him. It was hard to articulate his position toward a robot – but a robot that was trying to understand a human.

It was a warm time. Evening, with some cars aounds in far away.

Outside, Hemlock was already riled up, and Prophet was stretching his shoulders.

"They're here. Old Styx, hit it – they won't have a warm‑up."

Quickly, Charlie pulled the drumsticks from inside his leather jacket and counted off three times.

Without hesitation, Arora charged into attack. After all, she was a machine – her arms and legs don't get tired; she's always ready.

Her fighting style involved using the microphone as a staff, always holding it with both hands, with rare sweeping movements. All were flawlessly calculated according to existing weapon‑handling skills.

Charlie, being human, was only slightly quicker than this machine, but he could occasionally gain the upper hand. The trick was that he could do it with a dirty move – throwing drumsticks from time to time at her vulnerable spots.

After some running around, when it was clear Charlie was just dodging and pelting her, he began to say:

"You know... your swings and limb movements alone would be much more threatening. I probably wouldn't have stood a chance if you'd fought hand‑to‑hand."

After analysing that, she magnetised the microphone to her back and began closing the distance less often, weaving her arms and legs together organically.

Charlie, though busy parrying, said – "That's very impressive. But!..."

At one point, he deflected her arm to the side, ducked under it behind her back, struck her knees, and tapped her on the back of the head, nearly bringing her down, then broke distance. Arora, having a mechanical body, quickly grabbed the microphone and threw it toward him.

Charlie dodged, even catching the mic in mid‑air, but didn't throw it back. The music ended. Only Hemlock's shouts and yells could be heard, like "STOP F***ING TELEPORTING AWAY AT DANGEROUS MOMENTS! HOW IN THE HELL YOU PISS ME OFF!"

Charlie walked over to Arora and offered his hand. She looked at it for a while, but eventually accepted.

"See, when you threw it, it didn't fly straight or in an arc – it flew more like a pencil thrown with a backhand. Try throwing it like a javelin, or at least like how I throw drumsticks. You've probably seen it a thousand times, huh?" Charlie explained.

"Show me," she simply said.

Charlie started explaining with great enthusiasm.

"Don't bring your arm behind your head."

"And shift your body weight back so you can spring forward like a coil – it'll fly farther and hit harder."

"Use your torso – that'll be a piece of cake for you."

Some time later, the damaged parts of her body made themselves known, and she was about to leave.

"By the way, you were like a Queen. You shone in battle – I felt like a puppet in the hands of a goddess," Charlie said and smiled at her.

"Even though you won, you're praising me instead of bragging about yourself. I think I see the correlation. Thank you. Then... you really beat my Queen card well."

"Thank you, Rory. Let's go have a drink and get you fixed up."

And so passed one of their last meetings.

Two days before Charlie Disco's death.

The day he called her Rory (pt 2)

Some time after the release of "Send Me an Angel" and a performance in very provocative outfits, the whole band decided to go all out and test those clothes to the fullest.

"So explain this to me once and for all – whose idea was it to perform in a swimsuit and swimming trunks while singing a heartfelt song about love?" Prophet asked Charlie at the pool, sipping a cocktail in a stone hot tub, where only his head, arms, and legs were visible above the water while the rest of his body stayed submerged.

"Whoever's idea it was, they've made it clear they're not telling anyone. Just ride the wave and listen to the local radio – which doesn't play our tracks... yet," said Styx, who never took off his sunglasses, even in a hot tub like that.

The whole group had decided to celebrate their new success by booking the entire water park for themselves for the day.

Dex found peace in the saunas, where steam and high temperatures cleared his mind for inspiration.

Charlie and Hemlock were playing water volleyball in the nearest pool, and once again Charlie missed the ball.

"GET F****N REKT, DISCO!" Hemlock roared, even though he knew Charlie winning was a rare sight.

Exhausted, Charlie sprawled out like a starfish on the water's surface and replied to Prophet:

"Even so, we've got more fans, and the track is stuck in my head too. That's a huge success and a great performance – so should I congratulate you or Arora on that, huh, Hemlock?"

Hemlock stubbornly ignored the questions, which were subtly steering toward the topic of outfit choices, while continuing his attempts to lob the inflatable ball with an underhand serve right into Charlie's face.

Then Charlie climbed out of the water to grab some drinks. When he came back, only a couple of drinks remained. Styx got out of the hot tub, took one, and said, "I'll take this to Dex, in case he shrivels up even more without fluids."

Prophet decided to utterly crush Hemlock in revenge for Charlie and got ready for a water volleyball showdown.

"And where is she...?" Charlie asked himself.

The water park was quite large, but even we were told the golden rule: wear flip‑flops everywhere. Looking around, he spotted her flip‑flops near a particularly deep performance pool – a kind of stage. It was also visible from the stairs leading down. On one side was the deep water, on the other – stands and a hall where people would normally enjoy the show.

But no one was there except the band, so Charlie walked down. As he entered the hall, darkness enveloped him. Light came only from the water side; the hall itself was dark.

Coming almost right up to the glass, Charlie, with two drinks in hand, saw Arora in front of him. She had spread her arms out to the sides, eyes closed, standing motionless on the bottom. Her loose hair was fanned out, and from behind her back, it looked like wings with sparkles in them, creating a divine impression.

Charlie watched her for a moment and knocked on the glass a couple of times, ignoring the "do not knock" sign.

Arora opened her eyes and looked at him, smiling as he tapped a cocktail against the glass.

Instead of simply surfacing, she began performing movements underwater. Her almost perfect mechanical body in a swimsuit moved like a professional, executing one feint after another, until finally she swam back to the glass. After a couple of seconds of studying Charlie's eyes without his glasses, she quickly surfaced and came down the stairs to him. Still wet, with her hair spread out, she began to speak:

"This pool symbolises me. There's a lot of freedom in it, but when something appears that I want, it lies beyond my reach."

"But in the end, you're here, and you'll get what you want so badly, won't you, Arora?" Charlie said, handing her her cocktail.

She narrowed her eyes slightly, took the drink, and replied:

"No. That something is still beyond my reach, and it doesn't depend on me."

"Then what is it?" Charlie asked, taking a sip from his own glass.

"After that release, it got harder for me. I can't just take and understand love that easily. So many more fans say they love me more in this outfit than in my usual stage clothes. So I don't know where the truth is..." she answered, stepping closer to Charlie. So close that, looking down at him, he had to tilt his head up slightly, and her voice grew calmer and more thoughtful than at the start.

After thinking for a moment, leaning against the glass, Charlie replied in an equally calm voice:

"You can be loved in any outfit... Rory."

After a brief look of surprise, a soft smile appeared on her face.

"Now I feel like maybe what I desire is within my reach after all."

Rory gathered her hair more neatly and suggested they go back to the others. Charlie silently agreed.

The day he called her Rori.

After one of the fiery concerts, Arora was standing on the balcony of The Encore, watching the night city. The falling rain pulled her into thought, and the moon was slowly setting behind the massive Harmony building.

From the stage, the sound of Dex's guitar still drifted up—he regularly preferred to run through chords again, especially after a performance, while from the sofas nearby came Hemlock and Prophet's discussion about a new football or basketball match, laced with plenty of teasing aimed at Charlie, who was one of the best on stage... but utterly useless at everyday games. A soft shuffling sound came from that direction and moved toward the balcony where Arora stood, reaching for a cigarette.

"That's a really bad habit. Quit while you still can, or you'll catch something even worse from Hemlock," Charlie said with a hint of sarcasm, holding out a glass with some kind of alcohol and ice to Arora.

"Charlie," she addressed him without turning around, ignoring what he'd said—though she did take the glass and tucked the cigarette behind her ear.

"What's up?" Charlie replied, stepping up beside her with a relaxed look on his face.

"What is 'love'?" Arora asked, turning to him.

"Why are you asking?"

"I'm not human. Feelings are something foreign to me, but I'm trying to figure it out on my own. Not everything works. I've learned a few things by beating Dex at chess, but I don't want that anymore. I can calculate a lot, but that word... it's strange. It's illogical, yet I sing about something like it. To keep creating, I need to understand more about it, but Hemlock flat-out refused to discuss it. Our next track is supposed to be about that theme."

Charlie sighed slightly and set his glass down on the railing.

"Love is when, little by little, people grow closer, expanding the boundaries of what's allowed and trust. For example, names might take on not the usual forms, but more... affectionate ones, I suppose. Then people start meeting just the two of them, and they delve deeper into each other's interests. Something like that, but you know, I'm no expert. I've never been lucky in love. I guess I should ask a god to send me an angel, huh?" Charlie smiled at the end of his speech and raised his glass, inviting her to drink.

"A name... I don't understand."

"Well, look. If applied to you, I'd call you Rory. I'd use that name for you more often than others. Now do you get it?" Charlie asked, raising his glass again.

"Rory... I like it," she said, turning away and once again looking at the Harmony building.

Charlie didn't wait for a response to his gestures, finished the rest of his drink, and replied:

"In that case, I'm going to go get some rest." He walked over to her, pulled the cigarette from behind her ear, and tossed it off the balcony, "...and you should go recharge too. Good night... Rory."
