Need educated help with insurance post accident.
I'll try and keep this as brief and detailed as possible. In Nov of 2018 I was involved in a serious car accident while driving a friends car (in PA). One of the passengers inside the vehicle passed away and I was charged with 3 felony driving offenses, none of which are alcohol or drug related. I was charged in Feb of 2021 and lost my drivers license to a 5 year suspension that started July of 2021.
I am at the tail end of this suspension and receiving my drivers license mid July. I am looking into buying a new car and getting the correct and most accurate cost for auto insurance. My BIGGEST concern at this moment is that I get a price for auto insurance, buy the vehicle, and then the auto insurance significantly increases.
I've talked to an Allstate rep in person and they ran my MVR (which came up clean), gave me the cost for my wife and I and confidently told me that the only way the premium would change is if I got into an accident after my new policy started. I also talked to a Statefarm rep and he put in as much information as he was able to, told me what the premium was but also said he can't 100% guarantee that the cost would not go up being that I am currently unlicensed and he can't submit everything until it's restored. He said since the accident has been over 7 years, it looks as if that period where it would affect me is over.
Does anyone have experience with what I stated or can provide me with more information on the lengths of what they reports look into. I don't want to screw myself by seeing a cost now, buying a new car, and then having the premium just up later. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
