Hey everyone,
I’m facing a specific workflow dilemma on my Apple Watch Ultra and I need your expertise to choose between WorkOutDoors (WOD) and Footpath Elite.
My Current Setup & Problem:
• I train with Runna, which automatically exports my structured interval workouts directly into the native Apple Workout app.
• I absolutely want to keep using Apple Workout/Runna for my runs to log my pace, intervals, and heart rate data correctly.
• The Catch: I need map navigation with Audio Cues / Voice Turn-by-Turn alerts in my headphones because I hate looking at my wrist at every intersection.
The Footpath Solution (from what I understand):
Footpath Elite seems to have a built-in feature specifically for this: "Use with another workout app". It acts like a background car GPS. It provides audio turn-by-turn alerts and notifications on top of Apple Workout without recording duplicate fitness data (no double calories, no extra workout saved in Apple Health).
My Questions about WorkOutDoors (WOD):
I already know WOD is the absolute king of maps, but can it replicate this background workflow?
If I use WOD in "Map Only" mode (without pressing Start to record a workout), will I still get Audio Cues / Voice Alerts for my route directions while Apple Workout runs in the foreground? Or does the voice engine only work when a workout is actively being recorded in WOD?
If WOD does require launching a live workout session to give audio cues, wouldn't watchOS automatically kill/override my native Apple Workout session?
For those who used Footpath in the background while running a native workout, how is the battery drain on the Ultra?
Basically, I want WOD/Footpath to handle my ears and the map, while Apple Workout handles my fitness data and Runna intervals.
Which app is the best tool for this specific job? Thanks for your help!
