I tried this strategy of starting in the USA that someone said here and it works really well, I beat it consistently on mega brutal with 5 biohazards every time. You basically start there and don't evolve anything human related and only focus on the apes, make a colony and later move it to south america then africa and asia. Make colonies in all the big ape countries like Central Africa, East Africa, West Africa, Sudan, India, Indonesia and the like.

Then you just amass hundreds of DNA until people detect and start curing you, then evolve the bridge tranmissions + lots of other transmissions, symptoms and cold/drug/heat resistance 2. The world will be infected in no time and humanity could barely resist.
