I'm about to get a Boss DR-880 having owned quite a few other drum machines over the years..

I've read the manual (mostly) but I have a question about patterns which I'm sure an owner would be able to answer for me..

> Patterns are two- to four-bar phrases that contain drum and bass parts. Patterns can be from 1 to 999 measures in length.

Are these statements contradictory, or am I missing something in the nomenclature? How long can a pattern be, really?

I'm not planning to make huge ones. 2 bars (8 beats) suits my usual style when programming drum machines - I'm just just curious and want to get the structure and constraints clear in my head...

Maybe I should just wait a few more hours til the machine arrives, and experiment for myself..

MPC One MIDI 5v power?

Does anyone know if Akai left the 5v power off the MIDI port, or is it activated somewhere in preferences?
Maybe it’s just broken on my unit.

I cannot get my PocketSync to power up from my MPC One but it works fine with my Alesis SR16.

Edit: I just discovered the MIDI spec changed in 2014 from 5v to 3.3v
Both the SR16 and PocketSync were made prior to that.
This might be what the issue is.
